When George W. Bush had his own elaborate stage when giving his convention speech in 2004:

3. Awww, cripes........
desperation level of the Repukes and all. Today is the anniversary of MLK's 'I have a Dream' speech which MLK gave on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The Columns kind of recreate that, ferchrissakes. If the Repukes had even an inkling of our Country's History maybe they'd shut up and think before they spew their poison, for once.

5. If the Repukes had a clue, they wouldn't even in jest call their DEN operations
the "Ministry of Truth."

to desert his military unit to avoid a drug test.

I'm a total failure at sarcasm but I refuse to sue the emoticon. And I also refuse to use it.

10. He was already President, though.
The columns are an allusion to the White House, not the Roman Empire. Bush already had the keys to the WH when this set was used.

This is similar to the revised Presidential seal Obama's campaign made. I don't actually care about this, but I think it's an unwise move. Obama's already thought of as having an inflated ego. This plays right into it. A bit more humility on his part might sell his candidacy better than going super-gaudy. It's perfect for preaching to the choir, but won't work well with undecideds.

And, things like this matter. Wellstone's funeral event hurt our chances in 2002, and kept Mondale from winning.

14. There are columns all over Washington. Almost every one of the "famous" buildings has them.
