So Dobson/Focus on the Family pray for a "Biblical Rain" today?
Really. Here's a picture of the view from my window here in "Focus on the Familyland". I'm literally 2 miles from the "Compound". What does God have to say about it?

AMEN!!!

1. Beautiful view, beautiful day!
In more ways than one!

I'd tell James Dobson to eat his heart out...if I thought he had one.

2. You know...
I'm a witch with a 4YO kid. I talk to him about manifestation and magic, which really is akin to prayer (done properly). I have already taught him that you do NOT manifest (pray for) bad things to happen to other people, because it will come back to bite you in the ass--plus wishing ill on other people is just the wrong thing to do. "Treat others as you would like to be treated" and all that.

And even if what you wish for does no harm, that doesn't mean it's correct to wish for it. I have a Maneki Neko (Chinese wish cat) on my dresser. When my son gets disappointed because he held the kitty and wished for all of his toy cars to become real, and it didn't come true, I remind him about the "wish fairy"--the one who vets his wish and, if it would cause more harm than good (imagine hundreds of real cars suddenly appearing in our living room, destroying our house), won't let it come true.

I think Dobson's group needs a lesson in not only karma, but also the role of the "wish fairy".

6. You make a great point...Dobson sets such a great "Christian" example, doesn't he?
Not only is it mean-spirited, it's also petty. Is that really the best they can do when harnessing the power of prayer of their millions of minions? I mean, sheesh...at least let the Cubs win the World Series or something. But I think the wish fairy just might have put the kibosh on their little rain dance, huh?

17. Who would Jesus rain on?

If I recall my Catholic upbringing correctly, seems to me that Jesus' teachings were "love thy neighbor", rejecting the Old Testament tradition of a vengeful god. 'Course, just like decrying homosexuality, they cherry-pick the OT for what suits them.

In any case, WTG, wish fairy! :applause:

This is what a typical summer day looks like in the Springs. You've got to love it, and we do. When we moved here, we told ourselves that we woul never take the view for granted, and we never have. I love waking up to the sunrise shining on Pike's Peak (that's Pike's Peak by the way), it's pink, orange and yellow, making it positively glow. And then the sunsets...

5. Wow - what a shot!
Thanks!

The sad part is that there WILL be terrible storms. Just - not over Denver. Maybe the Focus on the Pharisees people ought to make a note about that, and about the timing (that's supposed to peak next week)...

9. I'm always taking pictures here
That one is my favorite so far. You should see the view from my son's school, it's even better. Only reason we live here in Focus on the Familyland. But my Obama '08 sticker is still proudly displayed on my car and it's only been defaced once so far! Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are your friends...

10. Shultz had a great line

He said these people should be praying for no rain in LA...fucktards. Part of our nation has a bullseye on it from the weather and these bastards are praying that it rain on a political convention (an exercise of our Democracy) instead?

I can't fathom how anyone could follow such people.

12. prayers work, but God don't listen to hypocrites...
pretending to have the love of God in your heart and praying for bad things to happen to others just doesn't cut it.

14. I don't know how they can not take this as a repudiation by God.
I mean he's clearly telling them to take a running jump. It's clearly a sign, I can't think of any other way to read this:

At the very least, God is saying, "No!"

15. It's bad, but I told DH about it and said "God must have a sense of humor."
Now, if he can just hold off all those storms from hitting the Gulf states, Florida, and the Carolina's.

16. Surely they have read
Surely these so-called "Christians" have read Ecclasiastes 9:11 --

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

Weather forecast for Denver from Weather Underground (my other favorite "underground" site) for tonight is just about perfect. Clear skies with lows in the mid-50's.

Have a GREAT speech, Barack!

19. UPDATE
And as the sunsets in Colorado, I'm reminded of a favorite passage from the bible:

This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!

I'm a recovering catholic, so, I don't remember where it's located in the bible, I think it's Psalms.

It's time to rejoice! We're about to make history!
