....In Alaska
The confirmed nomination of Sarah Palin by Team McCain and the focus on her gender, conservatism, and experience, reminds me of the old fortune cookie game where after reading the fortune, one says the words "in bed" to completely change the context.

In Palin's case, adding the phrase "in Alaska" at the end of any description pertaining to her also can refine perspective on her success.

to wit:
Sarah Palin supports oil drilling... in Alaska.
She is a staunch social conservative... in Alaska.
Palin has experience as a mayor and governor.... in Alaska.
She is the commander in chief of the National Guard.... in Alaska.
Sarah Palin is known for soundly defeating Democratic opponents... in Alaska.
Sarah Palin can rally the women's vote.... in Alaska.
Governor Palin is a well liked politition.... in Alaska.
She is an avid hunter... in Alaska.

I love Alaska, but I don't imagine the state as a competitive battleground for conservatives. I doubt Palin fits a tough contender image in her home state, and her views on issues like energy, immigration, defense and abortion hardly define her as a maverick... in Alaska.

Here in the lower 48 she's just another Republican hack parroting the same tired GW party line in the face of a country primed for change. I suspect McCain just called one up from the minor league.

We'll see.
