First, to suggest that Biden should pull debate punches because Palin's a woman
is insulting to all of us women.

Second, if Palin can't stand up to Biden in a debate, then she has no business being a heartbeat away from commander in chief. What, we think world leaders in Iran, N. Korea, Russia are going to go easy on her just because "she's a girl?"

Absolutely stupid talking point from the MSM. So says a middle aged woman who is still absolutely furious that Republicans think they can substitute anyone in a high heels for Hillary Rodham Clinton.

They are both very experienced!!

37. That's amazing. I wasn't even thinking in that direction - I no longer see Hillary
as a woman, I see her has a political heavyweight, first.

I am so sick of having this argument about the boys beating up on the girls. If she can't stand up to Biden...then she is not ready for prime time.

Agreed. She is not in any way comparable in stature to Biden, and
he doesn't really have to compete with her at all.

not to do the same.

13. Agree, agree, agree. When Obama & Biden debated Hillary, they knew they were
up against someone who was in every way their equal. And, just in case there was any doubt, Hillary brought it to them in spades. Not as a woman, but as someone just as qualified for the position as any one else on that stage.

If Palin can't stand the heat, then best the world finds out before 72 year old McCain has another health problem.

This is NOT a TV show starring Geena Davis.

12. After Hillary's debate performances, the "weak woman needs to be protected" meme has...
vanished into thin air. That the MSM can even tout this crap with a straight face is what the story should be. Hillary didn't ask for protection, nor did she receive it, nor was it needed. That the Repubs can think Palin will get this pass is a bit cracy.

15. Joe, if you pull any punches, I will be so let down. McSame's
choice is an insult to all of us. How shallow and stupid is this choice. If he was-and heaven help us- to win, her "no" experience" is better than Obama's? I'm madder than heck about this and I hope the collective voting public sees right through it.

Go in there with the intent to make us proud that you saw through this awful ruse.
Give no quarter.
I am a woman and I find this choice insulting to all women. We are smarter than to fall for this baloney.

Is it pandering to the womans vote? Plugging for big oil? Give me a good reason that this woman deserves so much as a second look.

Please Joe, we're counting on your great skills as a debater, Let her have it on behalf of all of us.

16. Yeah, it's actually scarier to me to see someone coddled because she's a woman.
Because the fucking dictators that need to be talked straight to won't do that. They'll just think it's erroneously easier to beat up on us.

I get into arguments/debates with people and I have won them on the sheer logic of my points with them, regardless of gender, race or creed. This will be my mantra this election, "DON'T GIVE ME THAT FUCKING SHIT!"

20. You are right ... BUT
You are absolutely right in stating that Biden shouldn't have to pull his punches and that Palin should be able to stand on her own two feet in a debate. That is the way it should be in an ideal world. It's the way anyone with an enlightened view of the rights of women should consider the issue, that women should neither benefit from special breaks nor suffer from unfair disadvantages. They just want to be treated fairly and have an equal chance.

But in the real world, you have both men and women who don't have this consciousness. I'm talking about those who are not politically astute or tuned-in to the struggle of women in the modern world. Some independents and conservative Democrats might be included in this group. In the courtroom, for example, male attorneys who cross-examine female witnesses, especially mothers, realize they have to treat them with greater care than male witnesses because to do otherwise is to turn them into a sympathetic figure with the jury. They usually refrain from beating them up on the witness stand but go about their task with more subtlety. It's the same thing if an attorney has to cross-examine a child. Unfortunately, gender is a factor in a courtroom. It's still a factor with many in our society. Juries are not always composed of feminists or progressives or those who are conscious of the struggle of women who would see this issue and react to it the way you do. If Biden confronts Palin, blasts her out of the water, and makes her look like a blithering idiot on stage, he'll be seen by some as a cad and not a gentleman. That's just the way it is with some people, although not with you and me.

22. Exactly. When I heard the news about Palin, I thought....
immediately about the tightrope Biden will be walking during the debate. Not that she can't hold her own, but that Joe will be judged negatively if he is tough with her.

and the rest of the team to know *exactly* how to go up against a woman. Joe'll beat the tar out of her on issues and experience. And he'll do it in a way that leaves her smile intact wondering what in the hell just happened, as people quietly usher her out the door!
