I'm so sick of the media taking this bullshit...I mean, I know that they have little choice bc of corporate interest, but the "LIBERALZZZ media!" charge ALWAYS seems to work in getting the media outlets to back down when they, once in a blue moon, do actual reporting. And Howard Fineman, though he appears on KO, is ALWAYS making excuses for the McCain campaign! Just like Andrea Mitchell....they are never satisified with the friends that they have, ANY appearance of a slip up and the McCain campaign lashes out.

McCain camp attacking the messenger

Yesterday, the McCain camp attacked the NY Times and canceled an interview on CNN, citing unfair coverage. Steve Schmidt continues on the offensive in The Washington Post.

By contrast, Schmidt spoke on the record in denouncing as "an absolute work of fiction" a New York Times account of the process by which the McCain campaign vetted Palin. He also charged that Newsweek columnist Howard Fineman was predicting that the governor might have to step down as McCain's vice presidential choice.

Fineman said that he has "never, ever said that," and that he has pointed out positive aspects of Palin's candidacy. "They decided a long time ago that they were going to work the refs," he said.

Elisabeth Bumiller, the lead author of the Times report, said she is "completely confident about the story." As for the campaign's criticism, she said: "This is what they do. It's part of their operation."

McCain also canceled a scheduled appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live" on Tuesday in retaliation for an interview a day earlier in which prime-time host Campbell Brown repeatedly pressed campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds to provide one example of a decision that Palin had made as commander of the Alaska National Guard.

"The interview was totally fair," Brown said. "I was trying to get an answer. I was persistent, but I was respectful. That's my job. Experience is a legitimate issue when John McCain raises it about Obama, and it's also legitimate for us to raise it about Palin."

5. the media beat us to death over what an "unknown , exotic entity"
Obama is, even though he has had two autobiographies and been fairly accessible to the media for the past four years, and the McCain campaign starts crying like little babies when people ask who the hell Sarah Palin is....most of McCain's surrogates do not even seem to have a clue.

4. I dont think this is a strategy that will work for them
they aren't making friends and the media is the only thing propping them up. They need to be kissing these peoples asses not pissing them off . If the media really does decide to turn on them this thing is over.

20. The media's job is to sell GOP soapflakes to the TV public
and part of that mission has always been to serve as the "Big Librul Media" punching bag for the Republicans.
That doesn't change because some individual talking hair-dos feel personally insulted by the McCain campaign. It stays the same, despite any personal feelings, because the news is a business and the same people who own the Republican Party also own the mass media. The talking hair-dos all draw their lavish pay from the corporate oligarchs. Their job therefore is run down the Democrats and to sell globalized "free trade", tax cutting, Empire, and the Republican Party to the viewers, the very same party that has been complaining that the media was locked in a Commie conspiracy against them since Vietnam and Watergate. Ask Dan Rather what happens when you take it personally.

7. I used to think that it was a facade
but I truly do think that the McCain campaign is full of paranoid sociopaths who think that McCain "hasn't been treated fairly" and think that Sarah is "being crucified"....and all of those reports about how they call Obama "The One", acting like jealous five year olds. They aren't just pathological liars, they are fucking paranoid.

9. "Ahh, but the strawberries, that's
... that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist, and I'd have produced that key if they hadn't of pulled the Caine out of action. I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officers..."

McCain is off the reservation now....It's only a matter of days before he melts like Queeg's Strawberry Ice cream....

12. We all know the game of intimidating the media until they back off. I hope it starts backfiring. i
hope the bludgeoning starts making the media retaliate, rather than cowing them.

16. yeah, it's the usual Republican game plan.
I just wish it WOULD backfire one of these days, but it always works on getting the media to back down.
