Wasilla Frontiersman: SOUND OFF: PALIN FOR VP
Published on Friday, August 29, 2008 9:52 AM AKDT
Sen. John McCain has tapped Wasilla resident and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his choice for vice president on the Republican presidential ticket. What do you think of this news? Comment here to voice your local opinion.

" "Thanks, but no thanks. If Alaskans want to build a bridge, they'll do it with their own funds" That's how Sara Palin describes her position on the Federal funding of the infamous Bridge to Nowhere. So she gave the money back, right? Wrong. They kept every dollar and spent in on their pet projects. Palin's skilled at self-promotion. Maybe it will wash with the American voters. "

" I choose a leader based on their willingness to solve the problems we all face - not just myself. I have health insurance, a home, my health... but I'm lucky.

Palin puts Wasilla "on the map", she's "attractive", a "breath of fresh air."
But the 2nd most powerful person in the country?

Maybe if my duty as a citizen was to only vote for those who:
- resemble me (religiously, racially, etc)
- will serve only those like me
- will help me feel superior to people who think and vote differently than me...

...so, "no". "

" I think Sarah Palin is a very bad choice. If I were to consider voting for McCain I would need to be able to et to know his VP a lot better than we can in 2 months. I am not liking a lot about what I have heard about her- but maybe if she were more well known in the NATIONAL seen we could consider her. I understand that those of you in Alaska love her- but that is because you know her. We don't.. and we don't have the time to get to know her. "

1. Some of these folks are delusional.

If they think that putting Sarah on the ticket will diminish Obama's support in Alaska, they've got to be crazy. I'm not saying he won't have a hard time here, but many, many of us are absolutely appalled that McCain would pick our little Valley girl to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. As governor of a small state with little more than 600,000 residents she couldn't really do too much damage in four or eight years, and she has definitely been an improvement over her predecessor, Frank "the Bank" Murkowski, but as a potential president???!!!! Give me a large break.

Not only are they going to lose the election, but she's going to come back to Alaska with her image tarnished forever after all the dirt that's being dug up. Any effectiveness that she had as governor will be destroyed.

Alaska's political scene is in complete disarray.

4. I was afraid that he'd pull his volunteers, too,

after the Republicans turned out their minions in droves to defeat the progressive initiatives. I'm glad to hear he's hanging in. In a lot of ways, I think this Sarah appointment will help him here, because Alaskans, who know her best, KNOW she's not ready to be VP. This choice is even more ridiculous than Dan Quayle.
