So far reaching out to the middle is bombing at the RNC
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 10:22 PM by WI_DEM
McCain speech total bomb. He didn't reach out to any middle! He kept defending the Iraqi war which is increasingly unpopular and didn't offer any realistic rationale as to why this war was necessary. And the crowds reaction to Michael Moore hurt them in my eyes--it reminds one of the 1968 Democratic convention when John Chancellor was escorted off the convention hall or 1964 GOP convention when that republican crowd began booing the media. It seems to me they are not showing their moderate face but their usual ugly face to the world.

P.S.
Rudy is still droning on causing the networks to leave with his speech uncompleted and putting everybody else asleep. I must say the first night of the RNC is going better than I expected. :)

1. Exactly...
Their strategy is to attack a movie. How pathetic....Why don't they stand on their record?

3. Their ugliness and hatred run so deep
that they can't hide it. The camera will show the truth.

4. I absolutely agree that their..
reaction to the statement about Michael Moore will really hurt them. They looked worse than children - more like a crazed sports crowd.

They control all three braches of government, and their biggest concern is a documenttary film maker. Middle America isn't going to relate.

21. I enjoyed Giuliani's statement about the construction worker
who when meeting Bush in New York made an obscene reference to what could be done with the 911 perpetrators. He said George merely responded to the construction worker's statement with a "me too". I enjoyed it because I could see the dumb Chimp saying exactly that in response to an obscene remark. It was an accurate description of the obscenity-loving idiot who now infests the White House.

Fear blah blah blah 9/11 blah blah blah Saddam blah blah blah fear blah blah blah...

They have NOTHING else to talk about. They have no vision. It's pathetic.

12. John Chencellor good analogy. Your main point good too.
The Republicans have only one single issue that Bush leads on: "who is better for the war on terror?". Therefore they are defending that turf with all they have. They will push the "ownership society" meme and others, but they all ring a little hollow. The only thing they have left is "Don't change horsemen in the middle of an apocalypse."

13. Rudy is bombing too
all Rudy and McCain have done is reach out to the right wingers in their party to prepare for '08--they have not reached out to the middle and I thought that was their job? They may as well have put Trent Lott and Rick Santorum on tonight.

After seeing this fiasco, I am now feeling much better.
This is going very badly. Its looks wrong. It just looks wrong and sad. Rudy is still pontificating, and he is driving home the feel of desperation. I just have a wierd feeling that this is going to be known as a bigger mistake than the Buchanan nightmare.

They are actually self destructing as a party in front of us. We are watching history.

18. They are setting up the plate
for their cleanup hitter George W. Bush. Remember, he's going to go out there and knock the ball out of the park, like the clutch hitter he is. I can see him smirking now.

And no matter how bland and vapid these speeches are, they will be spun into wounding daggers by some elements of the media.

19. Time to Donate
After the RNC in 92--which was another Nazi hatefest attacking feminazis and launching the culture wars--I believe contributions to the DNC spiked OVER contributions to the Republicans, contrary to what most people expect during a convention. I remember sending off a check the day after hearing some of their frightfest (no internet for me then; I can do it faster now!)

I think the newsmedia got the message that "mainstream" America was scared sh**less of the brownshirts after the donation patterns were publicized. Maybe we can send a message again.

20. Anyone know if Poppy is expected to speak this week?
afterall former presidents on the Dem side spoke. Ford might be too old to want a speaking role. He would be the only one I might actually listen to (Ford, not Poppy).

22. They are playing DEFENSE not OFFENSE
Between Rudy attacking Kerry and McCain attacking Moore, it demonstrates these asses KNOW they are fucked. It was really stupid for them not to go positive and act as if nothing were wrong.
