1. I've at times felt repsect for him, but that's over
How he can support Bush after what Bush did to him personally, and after what Bush has done to the country, McCain can go to hell.

watch the speech and you'll a confused man, not very passionate or excited about what he's doing. yea he's pro bush, or so it seems. But McCain did not deliver tonight, he didn't try very hard.

6. He's GOP to the bone...
I thought for a while that the Kerry/McCain ticket was interesting and was disappointed when the idea of bi-partisan ticket died. Now I see that McCain is just another GOP chimp.

9. I read the release of the speach in advance, and I watched.
He did only as much as he felt he had to do to still stay a respected Senator in Az. I don't fault him for that. I think he really does believe the US had to depose Sadaam. I also didn't hear jubiliant praise of shrub.

He's protecting his political ass, as any politician would.

Let's wait and see what he does after this convention. He has fought the neocons almost as much as we have! That's why they hate him! I still think he's the best Pub in the Senate.

15. How about the "anyone who doesn't think this war is justified is deluded"
crap? He's still deliberately conflating "the war on terrorism" with any particular adventurism Junior wants to launch, and that's the deepest, most dangerous and murderous lying there is. Iraq does not equal "the war on terrorism", and they knew it before they started; in fact, they deliberately skewed intelligence and lied to Congress and the people to get their way. The only "terrorism" Hussein supported was terrorism against Israel, and we are not Israel, much as the neo-cons are confused on the concept.

McCain is an asshole, and he's selling his soul so the party will still let him have a shot at the big prize. There's nothing noble about that.

The fact that he makes nice on occasion with Democrats and says nice things about them just makes him a mealy-mouthed appeasing lily-liver, and is disgusting by any yardstick.

22. you're right to a degree, but I watch a lot of cspan, and
McCain doesn't let anybody, no matter what party they're from, get away with double talk and BS. I may not always agree with everything he says, but I respect him for fighting with the extremes. I wish we had more like him in both parties.

Playing politics at a convention is just that...playing politics. A little CYA.

5. McCain has always been
a media production.

He's always been an extreme hard-right-winger.

It's only the media that has presented him in a "maverick mystique" frame. McCain pumped that for all it was worth, but when he speaks, the media magic is splintered.

Fantasy vs reality.

13. A recent non partisan ranking
lists McCain at number four for conservative voting in the Senate. That's scary considering some of the yahoos the Republicans have in the Senate. Only Ensign of Nevada, Kyl of Arizona (how ironic that all of Arizona is represented by two extreme conservatives), and Nickles of Oklahoma (thank goodness he's retiring!!!). To see the complete list, which ranks Edwards at 19 and Kerry at 24, visit http://voteview.uh.edu/sen108.htm

:wow:

14. I'm in the minority here
I do believe that Sen. McCain speaks his mind. It is just unfortunate that his mind is so conservative. Remember that he has worked with Kerry on issues over the years, getting an accounting of our MIA in Vietnam and Cambodia, and normalizing relations with these former enemies. McCain has also defended Kerry against the Swift Boat ads, and urged Bush to condemn them. He has gone as far as saying that he believes Kerry would be a great president, even though he supports Bush. That is about as honest as you could expect from a conservative republican. So I say let's be fair here.

16. No accident that McCain spoke last night for Bushie
In one short speech, in one hot hall, before a crowd of 50,000 McCain lost all credibility, honesty, dignity or any hope of national office in the future.

He has always been more popular than Bush and by calling his hand and "forcing" him to toe the party line in prime time the GOP has effectively stopped any hopes of his running against any candidate the neocons can come up with in the future. He still has latent moderate positions and that can not be allowed to fester if they are going to stay on their agenda. He'll now forever be known as a flip flopper and not be believed by anyone.

Win-win for BoyGeorge.

Hope McCain has trouble sleeping.

with him.( he claimed Kerry as his long time "friend " initially.) He also thought it was "okay "for the SBVFT to attack Kerry for his anti war activities. He thought it was "appropriate". Apparently he believes it is appropriate to criticize free speech! He is a "flip flopper" and he is not "honest".

18. Apparently he has no problem with the tone in Washington
This "moderate", "bi-partisan" guy is shilling full-time for the right-wing Republicans. I'd like to punch the people who were actually advocating him as a VP possibility right in the teeth.
