Cripes, the repukes have barely been in NYC long enough to get mugged :-) and already they're starting in with the "this is a Christian nation" crap.
http://slate.msn.com/id/2105911/But the Big Apple love-in doesn't last all that long. No one denounces the city, of course, but the disconnect between the majority of New Yorkers and the majority of Republicans comes across during the succession of speeches by GOP congressional candidates. In the most Jewish city in America, Mississippi candidate Clinton Lesuer strays from President Bush's carefully inclusive religious rhetoric. Instead of making the nonsectarian statement in his prepared text—"The very foundation of this country is faith"—Lesuer says, "The very foundation of this country is Christianity and faith in Jesus Christ."Really? Anyone care to inform Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, or for that matter, George Washington about this?
It's morans like Lesuer that set my teeth on edge whenever Christianity comes up in public. I try so hard not to be "one of those DUers who has a problem with religion" -- but when something like this comes up, all i can think of is Lesuer and his legions chasing me down with their crosses (probably burning ones, come to think of it) and trying to convert me.
We had better win in November, or he'll get his chance.
