MEME MEMO EXTRA: Wear a Silver Star for JK!
Strike back at the "band-aid warriors" of the GOP!!

The Purple Heart is awarded for injuries. But JK received the Silver Star for VALOR - something GWB* can't even pronounce.

Hit your craft store today and pick up a sheet of self-adhesive silver stars - then wear yours proudly for John Kerry!!

1. I say don't enable the PH bandage crap
Denounce it thoroughly, write letters to the editors pointing out how that is the true face of the Republican party, a face that uses vets as tools and discards them when they aren't useful anymore.

2. Agreed. But this is a positive protest that puts the spotlight...
...on John Kerry's valor. I don't think it "enables" anything - it turns the bandage crap against the RepubliCONs.

6. An unintentional kick ....
If we had good strategists, this type of less-than-subtle attack would not have been attempted (by them) for fear of backlash.
The other side is SO confident that they may attempt any tricks and subsequently weasel out of any jam in which they discover themselves.
They are that confident of OUR strategic weaknesses and of THEIR ability to bob-and-weave. Sad .........

...O....

11. Fine, if our STRATEGISTS are so poor...
...then let's do it OURSELVES. This still is a participatory democracy, isn't it??

21. We are as our strategists are -
We as Dems have too many concrete issues. That's a "shortcoming" of the big tent party.
They - the opposition - have the large abstracts, and use (and define) them regularly .... faith, heroism, patriotism, etc.
If it were feasibly possible for Dems to come together, much could be done. That's the job description for "strategists". These few professionals working for JK should be able to formulate, to prime and to frame the issues. If they as a small group can't come together to formulate strategy, I cannot see how we outside the campaign framework- in a diverse party - can.
We could "possibly" keep the ball rolling, but in our diversity (and selfishness) cannot provide the initial impetus. That's the job for the professionals. They're failing us, imo.

23. WE are the campaign, as a wise poster said on another thread.
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 11:33 AM by ClassWarrior
Screw the professionals - we'll do it ourselves. What do you think threads like this one are designed to do?? They're to create our own large abstracts, to use and define them regularly. Are you onboard?

30. Simply because "a poster" said we are the campaign
doesn't make it so.
It's late. Just weeks to go. I would agree with the stronger grass roots suggestions in an earlier stage of this race. We're in the position of the Brazilian marathoner. We can't be pushed off the road many more times - and expect good results. We have to have some leadership from the top now.
I note that the headings in this and other forums are screaming that an overhaul at the top of the Kerry campaign may be imminent.

I admire your idea, but time is not on our side. They have a knack for taking our issues from us - with orange alerts and terrorists' arrests.
We may even have to lie. Seems to work better than any truth we've put forth. I guess it's true that "a lie can travel 'round the world before the truth can put its shoes on".
We have to have leadership from the top of our ticket as far as strategy goes ... especially at this late stage. WE have to get out the vote; it's all we have time for.
Yes, I'm onboard. I remain perplexed about the compass setting.

31. I believe that every little thing helps.
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 12:23 PM by ClassWarrior
It's called retail campaigning. Tom Barrett, mayor of Milwaukee, recently reminisced that he lost his first race because he didn't ring doorbells up to the very last possible minute. It's true. Hell, I don't know why I even have to argue this point! If grassroots is all we have, then let's fricking use the grassroots!!

37. I don't consider that you're arguing the point...
Grassroots efforts are always admirable. Sometimes they aren't effective. That's why the hardest workers sometimes lose.
We have what? sixty three days to reform CNN/Faux/ABC ....... ???

When the opponent is an entrenched conservative incumbent, the battle is with the media giants. That battle should have commenced four years ago. IMO, the challenger has a formidable task against those in power. And, too, when we have ten candidates with ten agendas, time is short to get our ducks in a row after we declare a candidate (not at all yet a winner).

I yet maintain that, barring the unforeseen calamity on either side, turnout is still the foremost item of consideration. We Democrats with our demonstrated tools must be sure we get 'em out and counted. I also don't believe Kerry will win, and we can't assure anything contrary;
* will lose. We can assure that! We must magnify his real flaws as he convinces the electorate to imagine ours.
That's what I want from the campaign professionals - to assure that the * loss materializes.
JK cannot beat this bunch, but this bunch can lose. Same result. I believe the difference in the election will be from those who dislike * rather than those who like JK. We - and our proponents - must enforce the spiteful traits of the shrub. That entails offense.

And, "every little thing" does help to some unknown degree..

...O...

5. That "band-aid warriors" label is CHOICE!
Either that, or we could always make a YELLOW version of the Purple Heart - for the Yellow Chickenhawk Award, and wear THAT around. With a nice big Duh-bya on it. Somebody here on DU once designed one - including the little chicken image on it.

That sounds just right! LOL

Rather than being hurt or aghast at the RNC delegates' obscene behavior, this is a way to hit back. And it's funny.

19. See if this works - It's from DUer sirjwtheblack - in April of this year
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 11:19 AM by calimary

This Yellow Heart Award was given to George W. Bush for his "valiant" service during Vietnam.

By DUer sirjwtheblack, 4/28/04

Damn! Photo doesn't transfer. Me with my VAST computer knowledge... (HUGE sarcasm)

Okay, until I can either figure this out or find sirj... imagine a purple heart award - only NOT purple. The medal itself is indeed still a heart. But the heart is yellow instead of purple. So is the ribbon from which it hangs. The ribbon in plain, with a simple, slim grey border along the sides. The yellow heart has a small white chicken drawing in the middle.

Sorry for my cyber-nincompoopery...
