Want to turn it around?--then get back to basics---errrrr, the Base
Yes, the swifboat ads hurt us regardless of how one might want to spin it in their heads. It wasn't a good thing to go into the RNC starting to come down in the polls. Yes, all the media will be on Bush for the next days; and yes, the real job of the media will begin right after the RNC when they make sure Bush's 'message' (whateverthehellthatis) is blasted in your ears as they snear at Kerry. What else is new?

There is an answer. Most of the people have their minds made up by now. Stop trying to pander to a bunch of "undecided" voters (basically they are know-nothings who have a high probabilty of not even voting in the end). Whatever outreach we have done has already been done and the rest is wasted time, money and verbage.

It's been known from the beginning that this will be a tight race and will depend on getting out the vote. Stop looking for voters under every stray haystack in ruraly Bumfuck, TossUpState. Throw the script away. Return to basics and rally the DEMOCRATS!!(remember those little nobody's??). Bush is now going to have some trouble with his attack on SS and on his line about not being able to win the war on terror (as long as we keep pushing such in people's faces). So he's going to have some 'base' trouble as he tries to reach out to moderates. Kerry's mission now is to make the base so damn up in arms that they are waiting for the voting booths to open come Nov. 2nd in lines around the block. John--two in the hand is worth one half way up a bush's ass anyhow!!

1. This is just the opposite of what we should do.
The base is already really really against Bush*, and doesn't believe the swift boat liars. They'll be there. We need a few good cheap shots at Bush* to reign in the kind of people that do dumbass things like vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

2. Fatal assumption regarding the base
..and if you note, the republicans NEVER take the base for granted. Do not assume they will flock out. We need as near to 100% of the Dems voting as possible and we, as usual, just "assume"----just like we "assumed" our way to major defeat in '02. We ASSUMED the people in Florida were going to throw Jeb's ass out. Last I checked he was still in total control of the Sunshine State. How come the 'assumed' backlash didn't happen there. You can't count your chickens if you wander away and pay no attention to the chickens.

3. The Republicans are taking the base for granted at their convention.
Notice you will not see speeches by Rick Santorum, John Ashcroft, and the like during prime-time.

Meanwhile, you can look at the gaps between Bush* and Kerry here by hovering over states:
