Kerry takes command
http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4956402.html

A firm hand on the reins

Sen. John Kerry promptly defused a potentially dangerous situation Thursday at the State Fair. It happened near the barns, as Kerry arrived with his national media horde, enlarged by the locals and fairgawkers. All of these outsiders, especially photographers with their noisy flashing cameras, created an unsettling environment, especially for one horse that spooked while it was being moved. Rather than ignoring the commotion created by his presence, the presidential candidate stepped forward, holding his hands high. "Shh. Everybody quiet. Stay back," he said to the crowd. "Ma'am? You need to get through here." The handler calmed her skittish horse and led it away. It was an impressive display for some jaded souls, amazed by how Kerry took command of the situation.

1. I can see Bush, the "cowboy" handling this:
Secret Service puts down the animal . . . W is whisked away in significantly less than seven minutes (more like seven seconds).

3. Bush? The guy who wets himself when he gets around a real horse?
Golly, but that would have been a sight. But then we would have been treated to two weeks of breathless coverage about how the horse and its handler were Al Qaeda operatives, planted in an effort to embarrass the president.

2. Bush is scared of the horsies.
This is what you don't here in the "liberal" media. We never hear this side of Kerry.

12. He also performed the Heimlich maneuver on someone.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/sun/2004/feb/06/516309920.html?kerry%20heimlich

Hecht stumbled out of the room, thinking he might vomit but not wanting to do it in front of his colleagues. Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., thumped his back, but Hecht quickly passed out in the hallway.

Just then, Kerry stepped off an elevator, rushed to Hecht's side and gave him the Heimlich maneuver -- four times.

The lifesaving incident made international news, and Dr. Henry Heimlich, who invented the maneuver in 1974, called Hecht to say that had Kerry intervened just 30 seconds later Hecht might have been in a vegetative state for life.
