DUers in NY: Let's get some press re: bandaidgate
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 12:07 PM by John_H
Outside the convention and behind tweety:

Dozens of purple heart recipients wearing their hearts and other people holding 8x10 pictures of men pothsumously awarded the purple heart. Big sign that says: WHERE ARE BUSH'S MEDALS? and THEIR SACRIFICE IS NOT A GOP PHOTO OP!

Probably take fifteen minutes to get enough pictures, print them out, and make the signs.

2. Go for it!
I hope we have people here who can pull this together. This purple heart bandaid insult needs to get some coverage.

Though, I think the media will downplay it. Republicans don't get the hard coverage.

4. Drop it. You already got press.
The thing backfired on the RNC, they had to ask it to stop.

Time to get off it, and focus on issues, like "people against compassion" who cut overtime pay, cut vet benefits, cut vet hospitals, and cut "no child left behind" funding.

8. No! Keep the pressure on!
It's time to use it to get in the door to the media and then talk about all the rest of the issues like cut vet benefits while you are. What more perfect inroad do you need to talk about the GOP and their brand of compassion?

12. Um,.......this IS an issue....
Sliming of veterans is a major issue. This election will be won or lost by the voters who are "un-decided" at this point in time.

These band aid/purple heart images should be enlarged and placed everywhere.

Intersting use of pronoun. Don't you mean "We"?

22. The point is it's not about the substance, it's about the hypocrisy.
Since when is the media interested in substance, merit, or truth when they do stories? They're interested in gotcha. So let's give the GOP a dose of what they love to dish out.

The story is not how sever the band-aid mistake was, or whether or not chimp wore a minor or major or any medal improperly. Those things are irrelevant. The story is the slime. The story is about them politicizing and attacking service to our country when their candidate is an AWOL, regulation breaking fraud.

Easy enough? How about this:

Chimp and the GOP are attacking Kerry with ZERO evidence. Media won't shut up about it.

Chimp wore medals he didn't earn and the GOP uses blood of soldiers as photo op. Both are PROVEN. Will the media point out the hypocrisy?

25. Let's kick them where it hurts...
Listening to Air America. Few minutes ago a woman called in. Her husband served in the first Gulf War. She was so angry about the purple heart band aids she could barely talk. Said it was a slap in the face to every serviceman who ever served. Before the call was over she was beginning to cry she was so upset by the neocons disrespect.

I'm printing up an image of purple heart and the silver and bronze starts (plenty of google images to chose from) on a label. Underneath I'm printing - "I'm wearing this in honor of John Kerry and all the other vets who earned them. War is no joke."

Another one I'm thinking of making up -

picture of Bush - a line across his face - saying,

"People died so you could lie."
