Broadway shows censored for RNC delegates.
"The Republican party has lined up tickets for Broadway shows for its convention delegates in Manhattan this week-but only SOME Broadway shows.

"Mamma Mia" and the "Lion King" are included on the approved list for the GOP faithful, but "Hairspray," which features cross-dressing is not. And neither is this year's Tony-award winner, "Avenue Q," which features a gay Republican puppet."

So much for showing how MODERATE the Repugs are!

1. That's not censorship, that's paternalism.
The plays themselves aren't being forced to change their performance, which would be censorship.

It's the RNC playing in loco parentis to people they like to claim can think for themselves.

3. They sure don't want them to think for themselves, do they?
That would be DANGEROUS!

2. "Hairspray" doesn't really "feature" crossdressing...
They are nuts.

10. Right, but the part could be played by a woman...
the character, in the show, isn't a cross dresser.

And I LOVED it too. Excellent show.

6. well, Edna is played by a Man...
but, I would guess the LIBERAL message of the show is as disturbing to these neanderthals...

but, wasn't it funny that their Broadway medley last night featured:

murder/adultery/drinking/lesbianism (CHICAGO)
gambling (Guys & Dolls)
and, of course, they had the gall to edit Sondheim's lyric for AMERICA

from:

EVERYTHING FREE IN AMERICA
FOR A SMALL FEE IN AMERICA

to:

EVERYTHING FREE IN AMERICA
I LIKE TO BE IN AMERICA

of course, the fact that it was originally sung by LATINO characters was also scrubbed....

To the tune of "New York, New York" (with apologies to Kander & Ebb)

START CLEARING THE STREETS
WE'RE COMING IN DROVES
DON'T WANT TO SEE NO HOMELESSNESS
WE'RE G.O.P.

WE'RE LIARS AND CHEATS
OUR POINTS ALL ARE ROVE'S
WE WATCH THE NATION RETROGRESS,
WE'RE G.O.P.

WE WANT TO USE YOUR PRETTY CITY
AND NINE-ONE-ONE
TO BOOST OUR CANDIDATE'S POLLS--
WON'T THAT BE FUN?

HIS LITTLE DECEITS
JUST ADD TO OUR TROVES
AND WE CAN ALWAYS PLAY THE 'TERROR' CARD
HERE IN NEW YORK

WE'LL TRASH A REAL HERO
TO BOLSTER OUR ZERO
AND SAY: 'FUCK YOU!'
WE'RE G.O.P.

YOU SHOULD AGREE!

WE WANT TO DO AWAY WITH
THOSE IN THE MIDDLE CLASS
AND TAKE YOUR CHILDREN TO WAR,
POISON YOUR AIR,
OUTSOURCE YOUR JOBS
AS WE LIMIT YOUR RIGHTS.........

PREPARE FOR DEFEAT
THE NET THAT WE WOVE
WILL SHOW THAT REAL PATRIOTS
AREN'T FROM NEW YORK....

SINCE WE CONTROL THE NEWS
THERE IS NO WAY WE LOSE
WE'VE GOT DIEBOLD
WE'RE G.O.P.!

7. Yes, but it features integration....
It's far too open-minded for the Republicans.

I hope the hustlers in mistown get some great pictures of them!( And don't lump McGrevey In with them either. At least he supported gay rights and didn't promote hatred of the gay communityby promoting an amendement to the Constiution to ban gay marriage)
