To the heartless "purple bandaid" delegates.
Everytime I see a picture of the smirking hag from Texas I want to shove that bandaid up her ass.

So I've sent this to the LA Times:

======================================================================

Just when I thought I'd heard it all and seen it all in this political campaign, the delegates to the GOP convention have stooped to a new low.

In another attempt to try and attack Senator Kerry's service in Vietnam, the delegates are wearing small bandages with purples hearts on them. Not only is the is an insult to Sen Kerry, but it is an insult to any vet that served this country.

But this should be expected from a party who's two nominees are quick to send our sons and daughters to war, while they avoided it themselves.

Ronny K. Marshall

but he seems to have done it before the republicans did it, unless you can retroactively change your sig line. I am dumb about those things.

On edit, when did you do that? I first saw it in a post you posted days ago (that I looked at today), but I assume you can update your sig line so that it attaches to all your posts, right?

(Sent to my local paper this morning):

Just when I thought they couldn’t sink any lower, the Republicans have outdone themselves by distributing and wearing band-aid “Purple Hearts” at their convention for the purpose of mocking John Kerry’s decorations – because, they say, his injuries weren’t serious enough to merit Purple Hearts.

A Texas delegate, grinning and resplendent in Bush-Cheney bling-bling, was photographed as she proudly sported her “decoration” on one of her multiple chins. And former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who never saw a single day of military service, was quoted as saying he thought the band-aids were “funny.” I wonder how many wounded veterans share that sentiment?

These Republican delegates don’t seem to care that in their cynical desire to vilify John Kerry personally they are demeaning the sacrifice of the thousands of soldiers who were wounded and killed over the last two hundred years – an inexcusable, unconscionable act. They mock the heroism of all injured veterans, including the 7,000 soldiers who have been wounded to date in Iraq. And in the greatest irony of all, they do this to further the political fortunes of a bellicose president who never sustained even the smallest scratch, having made a point of avoiding combat in Vietnam by an ocean’s distance – when he even bothered to show up at all. They seek to diminish the Purple Hearts of one man to distract us from the yellow stripe of another. Will the young men and women who come home from Iraq with Purple Hearts expect to be made fun of, too?

Just when I thought I'd heard it all and seen it all in this political campaign, the delegates to the GOP convention have stooped to a new low.

The Republican delegates are giddily sporting bandages on their chins with purple hearts on them. They thought they were "zinging" Sen. Kerry but in fact they have denigrated the sacrifice of every serviceman and woman who has received this token of their country's esteem and thanks. The Purple Heart is not a cheap prop for your campaign, Republicans.

This disgrace is even more outrageous when you consider that the Republican party's two nominees sent our children to war while avoiding it themselves. Oh, and while Jenna and Barbara Bush are having fun being MAXIM magazine's 'date of the month', why aren't they enlisted?

28. Contacted the local Am. Legion Post & wrote LTTE
Here's my letter:

On Monday, Aug. 30, political activist Morton C. Blackwell passed out bandages with Purple Hearts on them at the Republican National Convention in New York. The bandages were printed with the statement: "It was just a self-inflicted scratch, but you see I got a Purple Heart for it.''

Blackwell's actions led me to look at his own biographical information. I found that he began his political affiliations at a very young age. He was a college republican state chairman and a Young Republican state chairman in Louisiana. He also served on the Young Republican National Committee for more than a dozen years. He served on the Louisiana Republican state central committee for eight years. Currently, he is in his 28th year on the Arlington County (Virginia) Republican Committee, his 15th year as a member of the Virginia Republican state central committee and his 14th year as Virginia's Republican National Committeeman. He has worked actively in politics for more than 40 years and has probably trained more political activists than any other conservative, so says his biography. It goes on to say that, "Mr. Blackwell is something of a specialist in matters relating to the rules of the Republican Party."

Currently, Blackwell is the president of the Leadership Institute, an educational foundation that prepares conservatives for success in politics, government and the news media. Over the years the Leadership Institute has trained more than 35,000 students and currently has revenues of $7 million per year.

I guess we have to applaud Mr. Blackwell's political stamina. One thing missing from his biographical sketch, however, is any hint of military service to our nation.

On the floor of the Republican National Convention I saw women and men of all walks of life wearing the bandages Mr. Blackwell distributed. How proud they must be to poke fun at the many men and women who have earned medals of honor and service by serving in our military.

I would personally like to thank all of them for doing what they said they would do: "Show the nation the true spirit of the Republican Party." As the daughter of a decorated WWII veteran and the sister of a man who not only won Purple Hearts in Vietnam, but gave his life in service of this country, I'm now even more convinced that today's Republicans are not the people we want running this country.
