Swift boat veteran makes attack on president's character

Wade Sanders believes the swift boat controversy is all about President Bush's character.

The former Swift boat commander came to Grand Rapids on Monday to defend Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, with whom he served in Vietnam. While he called the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth "slime," he saved his harshest shots for Bush, whom he said was behind the veterans' group attacks on Kerry.

"George Bush sneaks around the back door and tries to assassinate people's character because he has no character himself," Sanders told a group of about 175 Grand Rapids-area veterans and Kerry supporters at the Southeast Side Wealthy Theatre.
