Experts Don't Yahoo! Over Palin's E-Mail Practices
Palin's Email Habits Echo Worst Practices of Bush Administration Says Expert

It's not a great idea to run a government using Yahoo! e-mail accounts.

That's the word from experts, anyway, reacting to news that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's Yahoo! e-mail had been hacked earlier this week. McCain's vice-presidential pick apparently used the accounts to communicate with key aides about government business.

The practice is dangerous, said experts, and can run counter to laws ensuring government is open and accountable -- a tough point for Palin, who has made "open government" a catchphrase of her political identity.

By using non-governmental email systems, "Your information is out there available, beyond the official mechanisms there to protect it," said Amit Yoran, the nation's first cybersecurity chief. Yoran is now CEO of Netwitness Corp., a computer security firm for government and private entities.

"When she's communicating about government programs, that information is not being protected with the typical precautions the government has put in place in its own risk management process," said Yoran.

Moreover, a hacked account could be used to falsify communications, noted Yoran a point proven by one of the hackers, who used Palin's account to send a message to one of her assistants.

4. THAT is exactly what I was thinking when I read about her "non-govt" email account usage...
..those emails and the content BELONG on gov't email systems where the PUBLIC can see them. They BELONG to the public who elected her - NOT to her.

Shades of George Duhbya indeed.

6. I'm surprised and entertained by how fantastic this is....
Several people said in another thread on the hacked email that it seems like Rove's doing. If it was Rove to build up sympathy and blame an Obama official or the Obama supporters, from pundits/MSM/and the people. It completely back fired and she was basically reprimanded by the media instead.

26. "Palin" plus "nuclear launch codes" equals my lunch coming up.
The thought is too terrifying to contemplate.

"Jesus? Is it time? Are you coming back Jesus? Shall I punch in these little codes, Jesus? Take me now, Lord ... *kaboom*"

She might as well be yelling "Allah Akbar!"

9. Imagine for a moment you are Palin
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 09:46 AM by kristopher
And you receive this email from a person who knows you intimately; you know an old acquaintance that you know knows the 'real' you.

This was one of the emails posted:

"Hey Sarah, I'm reading the paper and have thought and prayers going to you......don't let the negative press wear you down.

Pray for me as well.

I need strength to 1) keep employment 2) not have to choose.

Lately I just pray may God's will be done.

I am trying to learn patience and listen to God.

I pray He gives you energy! Strength!

Love Amy"

How would you write a note reminding your friend Sarah that you have the National Enquirer offering you gobs of money to talk?

12. Not to rain on the parade but
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 09:56 AM by Froward69
because that yahoo account has been hacked, she now has "plausible deny ability" to say any email in them was not of her origin.

even though the hackers say they did not add any other than recent ones sent to aids.

the (yahoo email at least) evidence of her abuse of power has been corrupted.

Now if those "rugged Alaskans" actually have the spine to arrest and imprison those who disregard the subpoenas. Then we will actually get somewhere. Hopefully BEFORE the GE.

It began as bipartisan now the rethugs are closing ranks helping her Hide, delay, or otherwise put off answering any serious questions.

I ask for us to collectively think of how to pull away the veil and expose her as the power hungry, retributive bitch she is.

on edit.... ANY suggestions???

20. from WIRED
http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/09/group-posts-e-m.html

<snip>

Another screenshot shows Palin's inbox and a third shows the text of an e-mail from Amy McCorkell, whom Palin appointed to the Governor's Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2007.

The e-mail, a message of support to Palin, tells her not to let negative press get to her and asks Palin to pray for McCorkell, who writes that "I need strength to 1. keep employment, 2. not have to choose."

McCorkell, reached at her office, confirmed that she did send the e-mail to Palin. McCorkell later called and said the FBI has been in touch with her about this investigation.

15. It's the Incompetence, Stupid (no, I'm not calling you stupid)
The Incompetence of using Yahoo email accounts to run a government is the heart of the issue. That in and of itself is enough to discredit her ability to function as a credible governor.

23. She set herself up for extortion
IN anybody's email account there are undoubtedly messages that would be embarrassing if made public. When you are a person consumed with power, and willing to lie, cheat, and steal to rise in the power chain, the emails will be deadly. If the hackers discovered any emails of this nature, these is a very real chance they would try to use these for extortion. And given what we know about Palin's weak moral compass, she would capitulate to that if it would help keep her in power.

This is really reckless on her part -- a very clear sign of just how unprepared she is to operate on the big stage. She has no clue about the circle she's trying to enter.
