My boss has voted Republican all his life. He's never pulled the lever for a Democrat, even though he acknowledges his party has made a huge mess in the White House over the past 8 years. He's still not talking like he's going to pull the lever for Obama.
But he heard about the rally in Charlotte over the weekend. Friday he said, "So you going to the party?" I said, "I might. I don't know yet."
Today I came in the office and the first thing he said to me was, "Did you go to the party?" I said, "No, I had to go see my in-laws. But I heard there were some major lines."
And he leaned in and whispered, "You know we can agree to disagree on politics, but the media is so stupid." I asked why he said that. He said, "Well one channel is saying 'Thirty thousand people showed up to see Barack Obama,' all incredulously. And then you turn to another channel and they say, 'ONLY twenty thousand people showed up to see Obama' almost dismissively. That's just stupid. It was an insane turnout. Why do they insist on trying to spin it like it wasn't a huge blowout for Obama?"
I chuckled, "I don't know... you tell me."
I'm going to keep working on him.
