The Art Of Scapegoats - Bush Had Ken Lay for Enron and Eggers for Worldcom, McCain has Chris Cox

It seems like the GOP has mastered the political jujitsu of finding a fall guy in order to avoid the imposition of stringent regulations. The prosecution of Lay and Eggers help deflect pressure to strengthen financial reporting requirements. Likewise, McCain's calling for the firing of Cox allows McCain to say that deregulation is not the problem. Rather, its the regulators.

Of course, the scapegoating allowed Bush to cover-up that Ken Lay was his biggest contributor, and that Phil Gramm, McCain's buddy, was the architect of deregulation.

It is amazing that this trick works so well, and the MSM does not notice that the prosecution of Lay and Eggers did little to improve oversight over the financial markets.

2. "Deregulation is the problem, not regulators"?!?! With deregulation, there
are no regulators, seems to me. Would someone send Gramps to the retirement home, please?
