OK... I finally won a debate
I frequent a hobby board that has a Republican slant. I'm not a Democrat, I'm an independent, but I've been going I've been going at it with them about Bush, and now the election, for the past year at least. I hate getting sucked into it, but there's a lot to be made about... I lose a lot of arguments because of the sheer shout-down-dismiss factor...

...but today I got them... I posted this morning

--------------------------------------------------
Bush's bailout sucks. It sucked last week. It sucks this week. They had all of last week to think about it. They wrote a 3-page plan over the weekend. McCain still hadn't read it by Wednesday according to an interview. They have a plan worked out. McCain and Bush show up. And the plan is scuttled.

At one point during the meeting McCain was asked what he thought... and after nearly 2 weeks... he was given the table and all he had was one non-committal sentence to offer as a leader.

This is leadership?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26884523/

At one point, several minutes into the session, Obama said it was time to hear from McCain. According to a Republican who was there, “all he said was, ’I support the principles that House Republicans are fighting for.”’

------------------------------------------------------------

They railed on me on what I knew about leadership... called me a socialist... etc etc. I said I may not know about leadership, but I know that it isn't a mealy mouthed acquiescence to a Republican counter-plan of which McCain was obviously out of the loop.

I complained that jerking the rudder one way or another was worse than just coming out for or against a bailout... pick one... one or the other...

So they thought they had me and one posted

-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Amazing. Do anything, right or wrong, as long as it's soon?
That's absurd. Read the fine print before you sign on the dotted line <rolling eyes>.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

So I responded...

----------------------------------------------------------------
The president

The Republican presidential candidate

The Republican vice-presidential candidate

Have all said that this bailout is critical at some point this week.

What changed?

What's with the blinking... I thought republicans were all about the "not blinking"... make a decision, don't blink, and it'll be part of God's plan and all that.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

It has been crickets ever since. These are guys that have answers to every single thing. They won't concede any point.

Ahhhhh...

It'll be a small consolation if the economy goes splat... and people in here may not care because I'm not a pure-blood progressive...

...but right now it feels nice.

2. I figure if I can even get any of them to decide to not vote... it will be enough.
It's a stupid board to talk politics. It is always too over the top and no-one is "discussing" anything... it's only about the "winning" and I let myself get caught up in it a bit.

Now I can finally spend less time there... maybe that's why I'm so happy.
