The Page: McCain Plays the Bill Clinton Card (seemingly dealt by Bill Clinton himself)

(What is wrong with this man? Is there any context left out that would make this any better for Democrats, and for our nominee?)

Latest TV spot from the Arizonan’s campaign quotes the former president while touting McCain’s record on pushing for stronger regulations with Fannie or Freddie.

Clinton sound: “I think the responsibility that the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was President to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.”

Watch it above link.

2. has anyone seen the new ad
(hadn't seen it discussed here) by the McCain campaign that uses the bullshit "Obama cut funding for troops" meme , with a clip of Biden from Meet the Press last year with him calling it a purely political vote? I saw it yesterday and was like "wtf"?

3. Oh fer chrissakes--that Hagel bill went NOWHERE, McCain signed on to it
late and didn't even cosponsor it again when it came up a second time. He did nothing except give one speech, and now he acts like he's been a big champion? And Bill Clinton is suggesting that Democrats should have fought him more? That's an admission that he fucked up.

4. Excerpt from McClatchy on how we got here...
Are there other examples that critics have cited as harmful financial deregulation?
Texas Republican Phil Gramm, a longtime adviser to McCain, who also co-authored the banking bill described above. This measure, known as the Commodity Futures Modernization Act, kept certain financial instruments from being regulated, including "credit default swaps" -- insurance policies against default on risky investments. These swaps have been cited as a major factor in the partial collapse of the financial sector.

"The real match that lit the fuse was the CFMA," said Michael Greenberger, a former futures regulator who is now a law professor at the University of Maryland.

Its major sponsors were Republicans, but it was signed into law, as part of a much larger spending bill, by Democrat Clinton.
