McCain May 'Suspend' Campaign Again!
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 12:53 PM by bigtree

THE NATION -- John McCain is such a maverick! He cares so much about working families that he may do them the favor of ending his race for the White House. After all, his election would be an absolute disaster for those people. Apparently , McCain still thinks he can singlehandedly solve our country's economic problems--even those yesterday's House vote was, if nothing else, a sound rejection of the premise that McCain's gambit in DC had any positive impact on getting the compromise bill past.

Yet this morning, seemingly at the encouragement of Fox News anchors has now suggested that he "might suspend his campaign again"...yes, you heard that right. McCain apparently thinks it worked the last time...

If fact he goes on step further and suggests he might drop out of the presidential race entirely. "I will do whatever I can to make this work," McCain says. He's certainly become very urgent about an issue that he's done nothing about for two-plus decades. Can anyone, anywhere please explain to me what changed between September 15 and September 24 (besides the poll numbers) that motivated McCain to start behaving so erratically or dramatically, depending on your point of view. I expect some fumbling McCain surrogate within the next hour to assure us that the Senator is not going to suspend his campaign again. That's what Republicans have done best lately, contradict each other.

This is all very funny at first and then deeply disturbing and distressing when one realizes that this guy could still get elected! Are the voters watching this man melt down before our very eyes? Do they care?

from HuffPo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/30/mccain-may-suspend-campai_n_130553.html

DAVID KURTZ at TPM writes, "John McCain made the morning show rounds today. On Fox they were virtually begging him to 'suspend' his campaign again in the wake of the bailout failure yesterday on the Hill. You know, since it worked out so well the first time. McCain's answer: He just might suspend again."

McCain's comments follow a blog post by William Kristol yesterday arguing, "if this is really 'a national economic crisis,' and others have failed to lead, then McCain should lead--by re-suspending his campaign (fine, let observers mock him when he announces this), and leading his party and the Congress towards a solution. They won't mock if he can pull this off."

7. "so long" has a nice ring to it,
as in so long McCain/Palin.

2. Suspension (McCainese): Publicly announcing you won't be appearing at already
non-schedules campaign stops, avoiding certain talk shows in favor of others, allowing yor ads to run on TV, and allowing your surrogates to very visbly praise you for suspending your very visible non-campaign. Often pertains to going to a mysterious place known as "War Shington" to very publicly do nothing at important meetings with world leaders.

Also, allowing your surrogates to tell Americans that they shouldn't be allowed to find comedy in a crisis.

THAT kind of suspension? Check.

3. He will suspend the campaign in time to bail Flailin' Palin out
I wont believe there's going to be a VP debate until they are both seated at the table and the questions start to roll.

20. You've got that right. I have hope that Ifill will be fair and firm with them both
I want to see her ask tough questions of them both. That way we can watch Flailin' Palin squirm and melt under the lights - give us that moose in the headlights moment (again).

6. "It's Just Crazy Enough To Work!!"
McCain's campaign strategy in a nutshell.

He should try eating puppies on live television. That would be a real game changer and sure would shake up the race.

11. McCain was supposed to head back to DC, but Politico reports...
... that in the last minute, he decided to run off to Kansas City. :-)

Something tells me McCain's internals in Missouri aren't lookin' so hot.

13. Get real. He didn't even suspend his campaign when he suspended his campaign. He won't do it now...

His numbers are going way down. He's not that stupid. I love the clueless Fox folks goading him on, not realizing that even a clinically insane person wouldn't suspend while approaching a double-digit deficit (and climbing) in the polls.

It would never, ever happen. But let the Fox morons keep talking about it. It just reminds everybody of his stupid showboating, and how he's supposed to *still* have a suspended campaign, according to what he said back then.

If it means not trotting out his idiot, cringe inducing running mate.
