I was witness to a fantastic conversation today.
Around the water cooler, if you will.

My two colleagues taking part in this conversation are both Republicans. One woman, one man.

The woman sighed and said, "Well, as long as Palin doesn't....fall down, piss her pants, totally freak out, go blank, she'll do ok."

The guy looked at her like she had three heads and said "you realize this is for the Vice Presidency, right? So our standards are so low, we'll take a VP who can walk up to a podium, stammer out some nonsense and not piss their pants? No, I don't accept that. This is for a serious job, this is serious."

The woman paused and then agreed with him. But they both seemed very despondent and agreed that Obama will most likely win in November.

Since I know they won't vote for Obama (they're pretty much lost causes on that) and they won't stay home and we're in a state that will be red, I piped up at that point and said "Hey, Bob Barr looks pretty good."

They agreed!! They both said they plan on voting third party, but the guy likes Ron Paul. Works for me, man. Works for me. Any votes we can shave off of McCain, I'm happy. Even in my red state.

Seriously if you are in a red state and talking to people you KNOW will not vote Dem, no way, no how, then just talk up Bob Barr. A lot of them are desperate for a third choice because they really aren't happy with McCain. I've been a bit surprised with how much it's been working.

3. ROFL, I don't know.
Call it whatever. I just know Republicans seem desperately happy to remember there's a third choice and they don't HAVE to vote for McCain.

4. My co-worker is writing in Larry the cable guy.
Hahahaha! She's a total Republican, but can't bring herself to vote for McCain. I didn't help matters when I told her about his Des Moines Register interview yesterday, 'He scares me! OMG, he was just seething with anger. I think the guy is going to blow and I don't want...want..' 'His finger on the button?' 'Yes!' OMG!' I'm evil.

5. Heeeee.
Better is to show them the Des Moines Register thing. The whole "I'm not an astronaut but I know space" thing is just WACKED out. No one can explain that answer at all. It makes no sense. I think it's pretty damning on the whole.

Good job with your co-worker!

7. I think there should be a concerted effort to get Repubs to vote for Bob Barr.
Anything to knee-cap the idiot McCain.

8. Been doing it for months!
My husband finally convinced his mom to vote for Barr (she lives in Virginia and was for McCain, but she's been cooling on him as of late).

I want to see McCain's numbers as low as they can fucking BE.

10. Awesome! An acquaintance of mine who hates Obama and was planning to vote for McCain
has now, thanks to Caribou Barbie, vowed to throw her vote to Nader. I think she's completely ignorant of the fact that Nader is a liberal (she hates liberals), but who the hell cares -- McCain just lost another vote.

Erin, you're a genius! :-) I'm gonna start using this one on my (growing) number of acquaintances displeased with McCain but not quite ready for Obama.

14. Yeah, at this point don't even try to convince them on Obama
you'd need to have a lot more time with some people. And we're running out of time. So just very cheerfully remind them that there's always Bob Barr so they can register their disagreement with their party!

Lots of Ron Paulers around here. More of them than McCain supporters. I applaud their third party/write-in choices whenever I can.

nation. If they can't bring themselves to vote Obama split the vote with Barr there will always be the diehards, but some will have enough conscience. You can come across a Republican if you promote Barr. Promote Nadar if you can as he will more drive our party left though to claim those votes at a later date, only to Republicans though.

22. wow. I feel so sheltered. I can't imagine what it's like to live in a red state.
If anyone in my very liberal city is republican (and at work) they'd be too cowed to say it out loud. I forget how fortunate we are here...

Good strategy, btw.

23. Hastens the demise of the GOP by
building up the Libertarians. Here in Houston we could very well elect a Lib or two to a judicial slot in the county (because no Dems are running in that election).
