My Tin-Hat Thought for the Evening...
John McCain is ill.. his cancer has returned. He found this out sometime in the past month - possibly after his VP pick.

He knows that he's not going to make it through the full term, and he also knows he can't actually drop out now.. his party would never forgive him.

He also is keenly aware of the fact that his political ploy to get Sarah Palin to rally the base has exploded in his face.. the economy is a disaster, and she was never really intended to run the country - she was picked to be a trophy VP.. sort of like a first lady, but with pit bull tendencies.

Now he's got a problem.. he isn't going to be able to serve his full term, and the old John McCain really does care about this country. He doesn't want Sarah Palin in the drivers seat anytime soon.. perhaps in 4 years it would have been OK.. but definitely not now. He realizes that she's not ready.. and perhaps some of his staff knows this as well, but he also realizes that by giving Palin an inch, she's taking a mile. She's now the star of the show.. and she wants to run it. McCain is starting to realize that the biggest error of not fully vetting Palin wasn't realizing her lack of experience - but rather not knowing about her insane ambition combined with her Bush like ego and lack of intelligence.

So - McCain is doing what he as a true Maverick should do. He's sabotaging his campaign by making it look as though he's not trying to sabotage it. He's throwing everything at Obama in an effort to make his party think he's trying everything to win.. but he's purposely trying TO HARD, and picking the absolute wrong strategies.. in an effort to get Obama to come at him and knock him down further so he really can't win. He's pulling out of states he should remain in just so he can go "defend" red states with much smaller EV's and little chance of going blue.

With my tin hat on.. I can almost respect McCain for this.

But, with my tin hat now off.. i realize all of the above is probably just a pipe dream. Luckily for us, the result should still be the same - Obama in the White House come January.

1. I don't think McCain has the integrity, at this time, to truly put his country first. eom

5. Agreed - I think he'd rather win, even if he croaks on Jan. 21, and
leave the country to fend for itself afterwards.

2. Well, if you really think this, keep it to yourself.....
Or else he'll end up with the pity hero vote. :eyes:

Obama thanks him for his service.
McCain allows Obama to be labeled a terrorist.

Yeah, sure....he wants Obama to win. Sure.

4. Wow.. Thanks..
I had not seen that thread.

Very odd that 2 people would have the same thoughts (and i'm sure there are far more then 2).

I think it was the combination of the Keating 5 deal that he purposly brought on himself with the whole Ayers thing (again).. the Medicaid/Medicare post that I put up this morning... and just his whole demeanor lately. Even in the first debate, it's like he's purposly being an ass.. and he knows it. The interview with the Des Moines Register last week - that was just downright SHOCKING.. no one would normally want to talk to the press or anyone else like that.

And, I think he sees Palin for what she is. Possibly, even before he announced her, that was also part of the strategy.. pick someone totally idiotic who wouldn't be taken seriously. He just totally underestimated his base and their ability to spin and accept ANYTHING. :puke:

8. you're giving him too much credit AND...
...you haven't read the Rolling Stone article and the LA Times article recently that expose him as a meanspirited, selfish liar and prick.

I think the more likelihood is that Sarah slips her GOP handlers and challenges him to drop out. Backed by the neo-cons and the fundies, she could just try to take this whole thing herself. She's got the ruthlessness required for it.

9. Could be. He certainly acts ill.
Though it might well be that SP has taken over the reins of the campaign. She might the one who made the call to go all-negative all the time. Her ego and her ambition are apparently on overdrive, and they now even threaten McC as the head of the ticket. McC took the weekend off. Why? Maybe he's having a nervous breakdown or he's on a bender or he's regrouping (read: screaming that somebody better do something fast or else). OR maybe SP has simply shoved him out of the way and told him in no uncertain terms that he no longer calls the shots, that she's the only reason he has a hope in hell of pulling off this thing, and if he doesn't play by her rules, she'll declare him unfit to lead and announced he's off the ticket.

Could be.

13. I just can't imagine her...
...being that clever.

She seems like a real dumb box of rocks, who got where she is--because of her surface charms
and pretty face.

You're describing Miranda Priestly, and Palin is no Miranda Priestly.

She's more like Gabby from "Desperate Housewives."

I just can't see that dimwit staging a coup, but maybe there's something that I'm missing.

10. my opinion he knows he only has a few years to live
so he doesn't give a shit about anyone or anything. its obvious he isn't close to wife or kids and he will try anything dirty and nasty to win because what has he got to lose? he won't be around to care.

Thats what i think...and unlike some who think he cares about this country, read the Rolling Stone article about his this month, all he cares about is himself.

12. That article was a real eye-opener, wasn't it? I was sitting and reading it with absolute
amazement..at how many people he had fooled and for how long he has gotten away with it.
He is and always was a selfish, arrogant spoiled brat, who never, ever earned anything he got.

14. I think his party would Thank him!
And if he's only got a little time left, he's too selfish to care about his country or his party.

I think he's sick, too, but his ego is greater than his pain.
