"Look -- look, it's not that hard to fix Social Security, Tom."
"Social Security is not that tough. We know what the problems are, my friends, and we know what the fixes are. We've got to sit down together across the table. It's been done before."

So just what is this easy fix for Social Security?

I was curious so I looked it up and found that McCain supports a wonderful idea proposed recently by our loving president, George W. Bush ... PRIVATIZATION OF SOCIAL SECURITY!

Whoopee! Put it all in the stock market and problem solved! Easy!

God, the maverick for change seems to be blinder than a bat when it comes to looking at what's in front of his very nose.

1. What does he think his current job is?
He knows how to fix social security and how to get Bin Laden but has not told the president how to do these things.. not very concerned about our country is he?

2. The fix the was made in Reagan's time
was the one that created "notch" babies..those people born in 1921. Because of it, my Dad had less money in his social security than those born in other years...which also meant that my Mother's social security check was smaller because her's was based on what he got. Great fix! :sarcasm:

8. Plus it created the awful surplus that was used to float the bloat
for the last 25 years - allowing the idiotic refuglican tax cuts to avoid outright bankruptcy of the federal government.

3. That would have "fixed" it for sure.
Fixed it just the way conservatives have wanted to since it's inception: by killing it. Social Security is a successful government program that actually helps people. So naturally, Repukes hate it.

4. Unlike most everything else financial these daze, Social Security is solvent.
Or would have been until something like 2040 of some such ... well except for that Bush's Treasury
has been steadily "borrowing" from it and leaving IOUs in the place of the cash that was there.

THIS is the only real "problem" with Social Security, is that Bushies have been looting it through
the back door.

I'm currently retired and living on SS, so this is not academic for me.

5. For one, raise the withholding ceiling from ~ $80,000 to $160,000 or more.
People only pay Social Security tax on the first $80-85,000 in income. This means someone making $120k pays no Social Security tax on anything above $80k. If the ceiling were to be raised it would bring in a lot more revenue into the SSI system.

6. the whole point of privatizing SS was to prop up the stock market
Just think of all the fun Wall Street could have had with the revenue from that.

7. That riff of hius was stunningly awful.
"We will just fix it see. It's easy. Just fix it up." - or whatever idiocy he actually said. Carefully avoiding noting what his 'fix' consists of, and why 26 years in the senate hasn't resulted in the legislation that is what is required to 'fix it'.

9. That's as intriguing as his plan to get Osama bin Laden.
"I know how to get him, my friends . . . " Apparently he's not going to let us in on the secret unless he wins.
