Mika Mouse Club
Watching the MSNBC Mourning Joe Show is rather interesting. Both Joe Scarborough and Mika Mouse are trying to deflect attention from last night's presidential debate. They are attempting to present Sarah Palin's on-going personal attacks on Barack Obama as the "real" story.

In recent years, to create interest in "big" boxing matches (in order to increase Pay Per View sales), HBO has featured a series called "24/7." In it, they show how each boxer is preparing for the fight. They include details about their family life, and interviews with a wide range of experts, that build the fans' sense of anticipation for the actual fight. In a very real sense, it is similar to how MSNBC and CNN cover the presidential elections, 24/7.

The cable news shows have to try to keep people interested in the up-coming election. They show clips of each candidate on both tickets, and put a lot of their focus on the presidential and vice presidential debates. And they have all types of "experts," including their regular guests and spokespersons from each camp, on for analysis.

This morning, after the second presidential debate, Mourning Joe was intent upon taking focus off what millions of Americans saw last night. He has been saying that the debate was painfully boring. Think about that: a former Congressman who was hired for his insights on Washington's politics wants to convince viewers that there was insignificant. And Mika Mouseketeer keeps pointing out that Sarah Palin continues to attack Obama, as if that is the "real" story.

Scarborough has been saying that Palin is doing what Reagan did in 1976 -- which was preparing for the next election. In other words, Joe realizes that Obama and Biden are very likely to win, and he knows that he has to wait another four years before his party has an opportunity to take back the White House.

If Mourning Joe wants to put this contest in a historical context, he should be focusing on the stark physical differences between the two candidates last night. Obama was relaxed, handsome, and had the physical bearing and self-confidence that people want in a President. McCain, on the other hand, looked old, ill, and had great difficulty in articulating his answers to questions he should have been prepared for.

It brought to mind two images: Obama was as obvious a natural leader as was John F. Kennedy in his historic debates with VP Richard Nixon in 1960, and McCain did a mean impression of Ronald Reagan's first debate with Walter Mondale in 1984, when Americans questioned if he had the mental capacity to serve as President.

If the "experts" on MSNBC's Mika Mouse Show were honest, and admitted that Obama continued his ease in handling McCain, they would risk losing viewers' interest in their 24/7 election coverage. And it is a bit to early to begin covering Palin's anticipated 2012 run for the republican nomination -- especially considering that poor Sarah has to be kept in a protectyive cocoon that protects this fragile pupal of politics from answering questions from real journalists.

It's less than a month until the election. MSNBC can't afford to suspend its Mourning Show in the manner of McCain's "bold" move to save the economy. And, truth be told, we can't afford to suspend our efforts to win elections in November. This evening, the democratic party opens its office in the county seat, and I plan to be there. It's time to step up our efforts.

5. That's it! Mika Mouse ~ that fits like a glove
She is nothing but a little abused mouse to Mourning (everybody but that intern) Joe.

It was shocking to see the way they were just all so sad this morning.

That debate was not boring, it was enlightening and showed other sides of McCain.

It proved how out of touch Mc Cain is and how RUDE and evil he still is ~ his mental problems will only get worse.

Tweety, Killer Joe and Mika Mouse! :bounce:

3. They want to soothe republicans by lying to them, not entirely unlike faux.
Here's the deal Joe - It's over. One more debate will only serve to prove to the world how bad McCain would have been for this country, so do yourself and the country a favor and prepare for the best news we could possibly get at this time - President Obama.

6. pshaw. for joe to be corrected by the likes (ahem) of Gregory
about the split between their lofty opinions, and the results of opinion polls was amusing.

No, Mr. Gregory, it was not 2-1 against your candidate. It was 4-1 against.

the disconnect between reality and these doofusi amuses to no end.

7. I watched the first few minutes of the Joe and Mika side show
and was amazed at the lengths they went to discount the results of the debate. You know that if McCain had done well, they would have been raving about how the debate was a game changer and talking about the millions watching. Instead they tried to paint the debate as being as boring as a re-run of a bad sit-com.

I watched a bit of CNN this morning as well and they have been in general very positive in their reviews of Obama's performance. They remarked about how well Obama did in counter-punching when McCain launched his same old attacks. They praised Obama for appearing calm and in control of the issues. They remarked on McCain's irritating overuse of "my friends" and on how McCain's attempts at humor completely bombed with the audience.

8. The Mika-Joe dynamic is painfully bizarre to watch.
In a nut-shell it's a bizarre dysfunctional family SitCom.

Imagine "All in the Family" of the 21st Century, except Joe (Archie Bunker) does not have any naysayers. :eyes: Mika, in particular, has issues that make the character of Edith Bunker appear LIBERATED in comparison. After all, Edith was refreshingly genuine and non-preening whereas Mika poses and sighs like a spoiled debutante.

It's really disappointing to see someone of Mika's intelligence behaving like a cross between a beauty queen and an abused spouse. Her father and brothers must be genuinely disappointed in such a performance. :(

9. The entire media theme is predicated on the idea that either the election is close or can change.
Without a close election the media does not have much left to sell. With the exception of Olberman and Maddow the media (in my view) welcomes Sarah Palin's attempts to link Barak Obama with "domestic terrorism" as something newsworthy and not dangerous. If there is not enough drama it can be manufactured by such shills of discord as Mika and company.

We are all very fortunate that modern media was not present in the 1860's, I am certain the War between the States would still be a hot conflict.

10. The corporate media is just the propaganda arm of the much larger
military-industrial complex.

They would be perfectly happy if the puppet republicans were 20 points ahead.

They don't give a shit about it being close except to enable election fraud.

11. Joey Rat
just said that Americans "are yawning" when they watch Obama and McCain. He said they provide proof of why neither party tends to nominate Senators, which appears to be incorrect when we look at Kerry, Gore, etc. He also said that governors are far more qualified to deal with economic issues. I guess that's why George W. Bush has been so good in the current economic crisis.

13. It was a clumsy way of trying to deny Obama's advantage in sheer electricity.
The subtext is that McCain is just as exciting. SERIES!!!!1!

We're also seeing Joe denied trivial, fake controversies to waste time on. No wonder he was bored. He was left with nothing to do other than actually analyze what was said, and his frustration showed. He was actually going to have to work if no one handed him something stupid to obsess over.

20. Important: the Journalist's Creed
"I believe in the profession of journalism. I believe that the public journal is a public trust; that all connected to it are, to the full measure of responsibility, trustees for the public; that acceptance of lesser service than the public service is a betrayal of this trust; that individual responsibility may not be escaped by pleading another's instructions or another's dividends; that advertising, news and editorial columns should alike serve the best interests of the readers; that supreme test of good journalism is the measure of its public service."

I appreciate the recommendations .... not because I wrote the OP, but because I think it is important that Mika knows that we recognize that she has failed to uphold the Journalist's Creed.I understand that some members of the MSNBC studio review DU's "greatest page" fairly often, and am hoping that they will bring this thread to Mika's attention.

Unlike Joe Scarborough, who prides himself in his ability to insult progressive and liberal democrats, Mika is a needy person. She wants to be liked by almost everyone. Hence, when John McCain insulted her a while back on the Mourning Show, she wanted desperately to make him like her.

I know that there is pressure on many of the MSNBC journalists to be gentler and kinder to the republican ticket. This pressure comes from the puppeteers at NBC. Mika's spineless attempts to "help" McCain and Palin provide evidence that she is a willing boot-licker, who is a disgrace to those who respect the Journalist's Creed.

(Anyone inclined to e-mail a link to this thread to the Mourning Show are encouraged to do so.)

Even his lucid 'whatever' humanist moments are contrived reptilian product. Mika's on her own, she's a big girl, she's supposed to know better. But she's like all the rest; that paycheck is paying her mortgage. They should stop paying all these phony 4th estate wankers by the column inch, it only incites them to blather on.

19. Mika Mouse Club indeed.
I`m sorry that Joe Scarborough and his slavish team of Yes Men insist on continuing the Palin-As-Savior storyline. This morning we even got to hear the heartwarming story of Joe`s Mom back stage with the Chosen One. If I wasn`t so worried about starving to death this winter, I`d be tempted to let out a cheer.

Last night`s debate may have seemed "boring" to some in the chattering class, but let me tell you one thing....Obama`s reasoned responses and calm deportment are a welcome change from the years of Junior Bush`s "killin` killers" outbursts and Dick Cheney`s salivating over the thought of watching another torture video.

As I type, McCain is slithering his way to his next Straight Talk Town Meeting where he`ll remind the faithful that he sacrificed for his country (unlike some people we know) and therefore is owed the presidency.

GOBAMA!

28. The thing Joe doesn't get is that Palin will have no future if McCain doesn't win
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 09:07 AM by Mike Daniels
Palin will head back to Alaska and face a population that's probably close to setting up a recall petition in light of recent developments.

Furthermore, by the time Palin attempts to run for president in 2012 the public will be more educated about her past and her shady connections and she'll have other Republican candidates gunning for her as well. I'd be surprised if she makes it through the primaries intact.

I guess she could replace Mika as the co-host (not that I expect Morning Joe to make it through 2009) but that's about as far as I see Sarah going if Obama ends up in the White House.

Joe and Mika are unwatchable. For me I guess it's not so much the content, after all, I don't watch so I don't know much about the actual content, but it's the chirpieness factor. The songs, the ass smacking humor is just too much for me in these trying and scary times. I like a little news with my news.

That's how juvenile they have become. For the first time since 2000 I wasn't worried how my candidate was going to do in a debate. Truly freeing not to be balled up with anxiety. I saw focus groups last night and while Rat & Mouse refuse to face the truth, even the republicans among those groups did not. Or many of them anyway. They've got a loser who picked another loser. Sarah Palin can scream and taunt all she wants but in 4 weeks it's over for her. Alaskans are becoming disenchanted with her and the public at large will be sick of her. It will be interesting to see if she keeps screaming the same meme for the next 4 weeks. Guess she's never heard of the law of diminishing returns, amongst other things.
