McCain doesn't know the difference between "online" and "on computers"!
From the debate last night:

Obama on reducing health care costs: "We're going to do it by making sure that we use information technology so that medical records are actually on computers instead of you filling forms out in triplicate when you go to the hospital. That will reduce medical errors and reduce costs."

McCain (agreeing with that part of what Obama said): "And we need to do all of the things that are necessary to make it more efficient. Let's put health records online, that will reduce medical errors, as they call them."

Besides the obvious illegality of putting personal health records "online" (he obviously didn't know what he was saying), do we REALLY want someone THIS out of touch running the country?

1. Tell Mr. Maverick to go first...
Remember last week when his VP had her email hacked (because she's an idiot and uses friggin YAHOO for government work). Now, tell McCain to put HIS OWN medical records online in the same fashion...

Let's see how long it takes a 17 year old hacker to get that report all over the internets. That actually might be the only way to SEE his fucking health records.. it's worth a shot.

Hey John - umm.. you first buddy.. be a Maverick on this whole health care online thing.. yeah... go ahead.. atta boy!

2. I was trying to figure out the meaning of
"medical errors, as they call them."

Well, what would you call them, John?

4. Actually there are secure methods for putting health records online.
It is done all the time. They can even have xrays on line and read by a radiologist on the other side of the world. There is nothing illegal about it, as long as the proper security is in place. And it is a heck of a lot safer than storing data on a laptop or even a desktop computer which can be stolen and removed to a remote location where the thieves can have all the time in the world to hack into the files and steal the data. With secured online data the thieves don't even know where the data is located, let alone how to access it.

6. Yes, but he is clearly following up and agreeing with what Obama said...
... which was simply to put records on computers.

7. I'd forgotten about that, but it struck me at the time
because I work with HIPAA day in and day out. I wondered if he actually doesn't know the issues involved in making people's med records accessible via the web/internent. But I think you're right, it's actually just a not-too-subtle difference that he doesn't understand.
