Biden: “In my neighborhood, when you’ve got something to say to a guy, you look him in the eye..."
October 09, 2008 1:28 PM

ST. JOSEPH, MO – “All of the things they said about Barack Obama in the TV, on the TV, at their rallies, and now on YouTube … John McCain could not bring himself to look Barack Obama in the eye and say the same things to him,” Biden said this morning. “In my neighborhood, when you’ve got something to say to a guy, you look him in the eye and you say it to him.”

Biden, who arrived on stage in St. Joseph to chants of “Joe! Joe! Joe,” urged the crowd not to be distracted by McCain claims, saying that every “false charge, every baseless accusation is an attempt to get you to stop paying attention to what’s going on in this country and what’s going on in your lives.” And on the issues that matter, he said, McCain is offbase, particularly on his newest mortgage plan.

“The McCain campaign continues … to lurch from one place to another trying to convince you all that they’re capable of dealing with the incredibly difficult problem,” he said. “Now he’s gone to the point of actually wanting to reward banks and lenders for their greedy behavior. Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a steady hand.”

27. Joe will be here in Springfield, MO tomorrow!
I can't wait! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Barack was here a couple of months back, and I got to see him and shake his hand for the second time. The first time was in October 2004, at a Southern IL farm gathering. I even got to have a brief conversation with him back then--something that could never happen now.

I feel very lucky, indeed!

33. Oh cool!
That means they are reall going after Missouri too! This is so exciting and how awesome for you. I saw Barack last year in Portland, but it was so late I couldn't stay to try and get a handshake. I don't think there's any chance anybody will come to Oregon, which is good for the election, but sad for us. We don't swing anymore.

23. They are going to force McCain to show is angry side at the next debate
or he will be considered a coward. I love this move and see no way out of it for McCain, either way he's fucked. And Joe is right, McCain has refused to look Obama in the eye this entire time and the people are well aware of it.

24. It is amazing to watch the discipline from Team Obama
Experience issue has been taken away, Maverick has become erratic, and now they are shattering the tough guy image of McCain. It is not throwing the kitchen sink, it is systematic destruction one point at a time.

31. Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but the Obama campaign is creating a playbook..
The resilience of his campaign during two particular stages have been remarkable. When the primary campaign reached its the latter stages and there was much hand-wringing from Obama supporters and all Democrats about party unity, Obama and his campaign did what they needed to do *gracefully* and behind the scenes to work with the Clintons and her supporters to unite the party. Immediately after the RNC, when there was veritable panic, his campaign stayed the course. What should not get lost in this is that the Obama campaign was closing the gap even before the current financial meltdown.

All organizations ultimately reflect the values and personality of their respective leader, and the way that Obama and his senior advisors have run this campaign are going to translate into the same way that Obama leads our country. We have not in my lifetime (and I am only 35) had a need for such a leader. We do now.

There are so many apt analogies in sports. This is Montana's 49ers beating the sense out of a hapless AFC team during the Super Bowl, or Tiger Woods chasing down Sergio, or Jordan's Bulls putting away another team. And the McCain camp looks and feels like it is on the end of a clinical drubbing by a far superior team.
