It has crossed my mind that this might be the most difficult presidency
since Lincoln or FDR and I am thinking now - the man that wins (and at this point, it looks like our guy) will absolutely have a crushing presidency. I don't envy this president.

10. But bad times generally make great presidents
As Clinton found out generally stable times lead to a population uninterested in drastic programs like national health. However FDR managed to pass massive changes during the depression. The next president will have an opportunity to pass massive and generational changing legislation. Of course if you have a W during your bad times well... that's why I'm voting Obama.
