Obama is running a LOT of tv ads in Mississippi ...
his internal poll numbers must show something good here. I'm kind of ambivalent about this strategy, but I guess it's good news in a way if he thinks this state is in play.

4. Yes, talking about McCain giving a 300 billion tax cut to rich corporations
that should play well here.

18. down ticket
Ronnie Musgrove, former Democratic governor, has a real chance against Roger Wicker(R)for senator. After all, the Dems took the seat up in northern Mississipi vacated by Wicker. Maybe we here in Mississippi won't get to turn blue this year but we're picking up support, thanks to the AA and youth vote. And, there're a few old white folks, like me, who are strong Democrats.

8. No shit!
Anyone from Arkansas know if he is making a push there? Mississippi seems like a stretch, is he going for AK, Louisiana for a trifecta? Damn he must have some cash reserves.

9. Electoral-vote.com has MS as a "weak Repub" state.
I must say I found that shocking, since I LIVE HERE. But if this is true, it would be the ultimate slap to the Pukes to lose deep in the heart of Dixie! GOBAMA!

10. I think it's time to move the battle line
We should push farther into red territory, and fight there. I think Georgia, WV, Montana and maybe Mississippi are the new battlegrounds, along with Indiana.

I think, also, that Obama is reading the writing on the wall, and knows he's going to have to govern us all (like he's been saying all along), and would like to extend his image to these states that are traditionally red, but need to be part of the ol' UNITED States again.

12. And he just may be thinking longer term, to enlarge the Democratic base
also because having more people understand your approach to our country's problems will help you get them to convince their congressional representatives to vote for national health insurance or alternative energy funding -- values that cross party lines.

14. They are purging voters in Louisiana.
I don't know why they bothered as I don't think he has a chance here anyway.

I haven't seen any Obama ads, but I seldom watch TV.

Kennedy is running against Mary Landrieu. His ads are painting her as an Obama supporter to bring out the racist voters. I hope it backfires.

17. Okay, found a good article for you!
http://hattiesburgamerican.com/article/20081009/NEWS01/810090304

Voter registration in Mississippi this year is officially up more than 130,000 - a number expected to climb in the coming weeks.

The state's voting rolls now officially carry 1,851,266 names, according to the latest numbers given the secretary of state's office. Circuit clerks say that number will grow by thousands because they're still processing the huge influx of last-minute registrations, some still flooding in by mail.

Clerks attribute the spike in registrations to the historic presidential race between John McCain and Barack Obama, which has led to increased registrations across the entire state.

19. MS is in play due to largest percentage of AA voters of any state. I wasn't sure
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 03:46 PM by featherman
if the campaign would make a real play there but perhaps they are.

Nate Silver did an analysis of MS some time ago. With a heavy AA turnout as well as good margins among the growing Hispanic and "other" (Asian, South Asian, etc), Obama would need only 22-24% of "white" voters to achieve a majority. Please remember that MS demographics have changed with the growth of the resort industry along the coast as well as an increasing number of Midwest retirees.

With Bob Barr in the race, MS is way more competitive than the average reader thinks... it all revolves around turnout.

and if they come out strong for Obama and in high numbers he could win it.
