Troopergate - I Hope Obama Lets McCain/Palin Dig Their Own Hole First
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 10:21 PM by Median Democrat
The knee jerk (McCain) reaction is to start saturating the air waves with attack ads based on the report. The downside of this is that it does bolster Republican claims that the results of the investigation are politically motivated.

I think the better approach is to let the McCain camp do the knee jerk Republican response, which is to attack the messenger in order to cover up, and make excuses for the results of the investigation. In other words, the McCain camp will start yelling liberal media, and attacking everyone, while the Obama camp just offers generic responses about how this is an Alaskan state matter, and the Obama campaign does not want to interfere with Alaksa's investigation.

Let a few days pass, THEN jump down the throat of McCain's campaign for its actions in trying to cover-up the results of the report, as well as its character assassination of anyone who was involved in preparing the report. I would draw parallels between Joe Wilson, Valerie Plane and Scooter Libby, and say that the next 4 years of a McCain/Palin administration will be like the last eight where critics of the administration are vilified and attacked by the administration.

In other words, let the McCain campaign do our work for us by acting like Bush, then attack based on the similarities, not the actual results of the report.

Of course, Sarah Palin could avoid this by doing the honorable thing and apologizing for abusing her power. However, Republicans never apologize. Thus, it is better to let nature take its course, then to point out the similarities between Bush-Cheney and McCain-Palin in terms of trying to destroy the reputations of critics.

2. The committee had
10 Repugs and 4 Dems. Don't let them get away with this.

4. The Question Is How Do You Think McCain/Palin Will React?
If McCain Palin were to ignore it, then there might be more pressure to try to bring it up in an attack. However, the initial impression is that McCain-Palin are trying to attack the characters of everyone involved in the investigation. Therefore, maybe the approach is to let McCain-Palin do their best impression of Bush-Cheney-Rove, then point out the similarities in the aftermath.

3. I think the McCain campaign is guilty
of obstruction of justice in this matter. They did everything they could to stonewall this investigation up to and including influencing the attorney general to advise witnesses to ignore subpoenas. This is just wrong.

5. They already did that.
They already did that with their self-serving, phoney-baloney report they released earlier today.

A 527 could easily spin it with the angle of "Same ol' Culture of Corruption".

9. True - Don't Focus on Sarah - Focus On The McCain Campaign
If we were to make this ONLY about Palin, then McCain could still dump her and avoid some of the repercussions. However, if we make the narrative about the cover-up culture of the GOP, then even if McCain were to dump Palin, the fact remains that his campaign tried to obstruct and cover-up the allegations surrounding Palin.

7. I have to say that Obama and Biden have been wise
EXTREMELY wise on how to deal with Palin at every turn. They will work this to advantage, even if that means saying nothing initially and again letting McSame/Failin' show how much drama they plan to bring to Washington. The more they look out of control, the more our guys look like not only the right choice, but the only SANE choice. What a team we have!:toast:

8. They are just going to let the report speak for itself
Palin sells papers so the media is going to go apeshit with it.
