SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — U.S. Sen. Joe Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, brought the campaign being waged by Sen. Barack Obama and himself deep into traditionally Republican territory Friday with an appearance in Springfield’s Jordan Valley Park.

“We need a fundamental, wholesale change in the political and economic philosophy of this country,” Biden said.

Biden in his speech reminded the crowd that a manager for U.S. Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign had recently said the campaign wants to “turn the page on the economy.”

“He didn’t mean solving the crisis,” Biden said. “He meant ignoring it and attacking Barack Obama.” Biden said the page can’t be turned on the economy until there’s a better ending to the story.

6. And he is the perfect running mate for Obama
They are so different and have complementary strengths. I am absolutely thrilled with Biden, I think he will be our best VP yet!

2. It's funny how we can campaign in very red areas, but when McCain\Palin go into blue territory, they
get heckled or booed.

I love it!

3. Sen. Biden really knows how to put things into terms that everyone can understand.
I think he really comes across and genuine. And I truly think he IS genuine.

4. Joe made 4 speeches there! Really working on Missouri.
We got Claire McCaskill so maybe we can get the state to turn blue!

You wouldn't believe the Obama stickers down here. Crazy good.

9. I grew up in Springfield,
...are there really a lot of Obama stickers here? There aren't many in Oklahoma City.

12. Land of Ashcroft
There are plenty of Obama yard signs in the Land of John Ashcroft, but thievery is rampant. Scores of signs stolen from yards -- helping fund the campaign, of course, because supporters keep donating to get new ones. Every dollar counts, right?

Don't get me wrong. McCain signs still outnumber Obama placards in Springfield, and McCain is still likely to win Greene County (and he's a lock to carry the 7th District). But the fact that Biden was here in October, campaigning before an enthusiastic crowd, should make all Dems happy. Greene County hasn't voted for a Democrat for president since 1964. The party's in the game this time.

10. Makes me miss living in a swing state...
...no one bothers to come to Oklahoma unless they're Republicans looking for some oil money.

11. I saw John Edwards at SMSU in 2004 ...
A very inspiring speech that promoted families and working people ....

I am sure Biden kept up that great tradition in Springfield, a place I lived for 15 months, and which eventually broke me down, financially ....

Very beautiful country, but not a place for a New Jersey-NYC born Liberal Atheist .....

Especially one that likes to work for pay ....

15. ACK! I'm surprised you made it out alive. I'm not a Greene Co native
and this place really brings me down at times, but I've managed to get a good core of leftie friends.

17. Life long SWMO resident. Sorry to hear you couldn't afford it, I love this area--despite the RW lean
I hate it most of the time, and bitch about it.

But it's home for me. So I deal with it, and I get a kick out of pissing off the RW friends and family.

I didn't see Edwards in 2004, though I was a volunteer. I did see him in Springfield this past year, and he was great then too.

18. I put out 90 resumes and applications.....
I got three hits ....

We started a business in Springfield: a Women's Gym at Aundria Plaza, which failed in one year ....

I finally took one temp job at 7.50 per hour ... and then eventually a 10.00 ph job in my field.

It wasnt enough: By the time I left to Colorado, I was already broken down ...

I doubled my wages by moving to Denver .... I havent looked back ....

Very pretty place though ....
