Well Helloooo West Virginia !!!

McCain Still Trails in the National Polls

We have eight national polls today. Here they are.
- Battleground (Obama +8)
- Diageo (Obama +7)
- Gallup (Obama +10)
- Newsweek (Obama +11)
- Opinion Dynamics (Obama +7)
- Rasmussen (Obama +5)
- Research 2000 (Obama +12)
- Zogby (Obama +5)

On the average, Obama's lead is 8.1%. McCain clearly has to shake things up fast and the Branchflower report is probably not what the doctor ordered and neither is the gay marriage ruling.

As the stock market has collapsed (the Dow had its worst week in history last week, dropping 18%), John McCain's stock has plummeted, too. This graph shows the close correlation between the S&P 500 stock index and McCain's standing the national Gallup polls. Thanks to Scott Brandt for the pointer.

:woohoo:

16. He probably should have added "I also know Barack is a good Christian, a father, and..."
That would've sealed the deal.

"Howdy Friends, This is Ralph Stanley, and I think I know a little somethin' about the families around here. And after the last eight years, I know we all need a change. Now, nobody's lookin' for a handout, but I think we could use a leader who's on our side. And I believe that leader's Barack Obama. Barack'll cut taxes for everyday folks, not big business, so you'll have a little more money in your pocket at the end of the year. He understands that our kids shouldn't have to leave our communities to find work. That's why Barack'll make it easier to send your children to college, and help create five million new jobs, by investin' right here at home. I also know Barack is a good man, a father and a devoted husband. He values personal responsibility, and family first. So please join me, Ralph Stanley, in supporting a true friend of the people, who live right here in South-west Virginia. Barack Obama is the Change We Need."

11. Isn't this great??!! What a miracle!!
Back in the primaries, NPR had a few interviews with folks that claimed they could never vote for a black man OR a woman! The world is topsy-turvy! Isn't it grand!!!

14. Historically WV has been a very strong Democratic state
It's been red the past two elections, but before that it has been a Dem stronghold.

Hell, Dukakis took WV in '88 if that tells you anything.

Bush successfully campaigned there. Gore did campaign there at all.

Thing is... the earlier polls are about to phase out, and do not take into account the economic meltdown of recent days.

Either way, if McCain has to worry about and spend money in places like WV, I think we're looking pretty damned good three weeks out.

:shrug;

20. *sigh* How many times do I have to go over this?
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 10:07 PM by Blondiegrrl
All other polls for West Virginia has Obama DOWN by 4 to 8 points.

ONE poll, by a notoriously unreliable polling organization, had him inexplicably rise 16 points to an 8 point lead over McCain in ONE week's time. The poll is an outlier. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT call WV blue until several other polls weigh in on this.

If Electoral-Vote.com is this quick to jump the gun about WV, then I'm starting to question the validity of the entire site.

22. Could Be... But Did You Check The Link In Post #18 ???
Most of the few WV polls were taken BEFORE the financial meltdown.

I want to see more polls too, but right now because of rapidly changing events, I'm not sure which polls are the outliers in this instance.

24. Yes -- that's what I was referring to. But I think EV.com is
jumping the gun until they get more information to back them up.

I live in WV. I think Obama can win this state, but it's far from in the bag for him. I really wish either he or Biden could come here to campaign.
