Don't Let It Happen Here

There are many variations of Niemoller's famous poem that begins, "First they came for the Communists...". I and maybe some of you have been thinking about those words with the McCain/Palin rallies looking more and more like National Socialist assemblies every day.

The Mingus Big Band did a slightly different version on its CD, Blues & Politics (1999) At the beginning of the cut "Don't Let It Happen Here," a voice reads:

One day they came and took the Communists, and I said nothing, because I was not a Communist. Then one day they burned the Catholic Churches, and I said nothing, because I was born a Protestant. Then they came and took the Unionists, and I said nothing, because I was not a Unionist. One day they came and took the people of the Jewish Faith, and I said nothing, because I had no faith left. Then one day they came and took me, and I could say nothing, because I was as guilty as they were for not speaking out and saying that we all have a right to freedom...

1. Well I just received a ten page pocket pamplet from the ACLU.

It is titled 2008 Wisconsin Voter Empowerment card. It is ten pages with all kinds of information. I never needed this much information to vote. I have a college degree and still will wonder if I'm ok when I walk into my republican voting poll. When did all this change? All I have heard is Freedom is on the March....Marching right on out of the United States of America.....
