What will the "age of Obama" bring? My predictions.....

  • Science will be "cool" again. No more demonization and superstition. Medical research, no longer bound by archaic constraints put on it by bible-thumpers in power, will boom with new cures being discovered so rapidly our heads will spin. Research into alternative energy will skyrocket due to government not only getting out of the way, but encouraging it through grants and tax breaks.

  • Within a year and a half, there will be less than 5000 US troops left in Iraq. The resulting $10 billion per month savings will help lower the deficit, which will spur investor confidence, which will spur sustained growth like we saw in 1993-99. The thousands of highly-motivated, highly-skilled military personnel returning home will re-enter the workforce and provide a productivity boost which will spur the economy even further.

  • It will become "cool" around the world to "like" America again. Remember the crowds Bill Clinton got in Ireland during the latter stages of his term? Remember the 200,000 Germans who turned out to see Obama? A wave of pro-US sentiment will wash over the rest of the world which will lead to unprecedented cooperation on the environment, the world economy, and most importantly.... on terrorism and world peace. The wonderful hand that Bush was given immediately after 9/11 will return - but won't be squandered this time.

  • The GOP, pushed into the wilderness and forced to re-evaluate itself, will either adjust and become a better party in 5 or 10 years or they will fragment into smaller sub-parties and be out of power for a couple decades until they finally reconstitute. It will be a painful transformation process either way... how painful it ends up being is up to the GOP.

  • By year 4 of the Obama administration, the budget will be in balance - meaning the debt will not go any higher. By year 6, we will be back to having surpluses and begin paying down the Bush debt.

  • The changing demographics of this country will ensure a strong Democratic majority for quite a while. Think 1954-94.

2. I'll go for that.
I too dream about a future with Barack Obama as president. Radio isn't the medium it once was, but I image President Obama talking to Americans as President Franklin Rooseveldt did to get us through tough economic times: Fireside blog.

3. I would like to see a second Harlem renaissance, only countrywide.
Talented young black people all over the country are going to be inspired like never before.

4. Terrific post!
Very possible and totally relevant goals.

I'd also like to think that we can make the final turn home in our nation's struggle with racism.
Racism has no place in America if we are to survive as a free democracy, by and for the people.

5. I can get behind getting rid of racism...
but, I'd like to raise you a getting rid of "-ism" period. Look what Hillary did to inspire women! Look what Barack is doing to inspire the black community! Sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia...it's all outdated. Let's see what we can really do in this country if we ALL believe in each other and work together!

7. Yes
When we stop having to talk about it and just live it - we'll be there.

10. Agreed. I think the mere fact of an Obama presidency
will gradually change a lot of people's minds. A big part of racism is ignorance. Seeing an African-American man as president day in and day out will gradually lead people to a greater sense of familiarity and understanding that we're not significantly different from each other.

15. Right! Going green!
There will be a huge push towards alternative fuels, energy conservation, etc. Good jobs will be created. America will "make things" again. The service industry will slowly lose its greatest employer status....

13. It will bring this:
When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

Actually, we ARE in the dawning of the Age of Aquarius (and leaving the violence-filled Age of Pisces) so, Obama's timing was perfect. He will have the planets in his favor.

If you believe that stuff.

16. I have a prediction
There will be an explosion of new jobs thanks to Barack's commitment to alternative energy. I liked in the last debate when he said a new energy economy would drive us into the future while creating new jobs, similar to what the computer industry did over the past few decades.

17. I'm liking the sound of this. :)
Right now we are witnessing the desperate gasps of intolerance in its death throes. A new age of positivity and inspiration is upon us.
