Why I Don't Vote Early Anymore
Because I take my 2 kids with me to the polling place where they come into the booth with me and flip the switches for the Democrats.

They are psyched that they'll be voting for Obama/Biden. I hope the poll workers still allow this "family tradition" here in CA.

2. I just heard "Teach Your Children" in my head when I read this
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks
The one you’ll know by.

3. Me too!!!!
My two children (ages 8,9) have come into the voting booth with me every time!

I want them to see democracy in action. They've followed this election and they love
Barack Obama. They were mad at us because they werent' allowed to watch the debate (it
was on after their bed time!).

They know mommy has worked hard for Barack Obama, and I want them to see me voting
and Barack Obama's name on the ballot!

:) :bounce: :hi: :woohoo:

4. My mom always did that with me!
I ALWAYS helped her vote. And then as soon as I was able I started voting every chance I got.

They just have to let you vote with your kids, it can be something they always remember.. like how I remember helping my mom.

6. I would never vote early after what happened with Wellstone
I've even called my county elections board to see what their provision is if a candidate dies right before the election. They did not have an answer for me.

Understand that the number of pre-cast votes for Wellstone, that couldn't count for Mondale, were larger than Norm Coleman's margin of victory.

No, I won't vote early.

9. When I was a child, I used to go to the polls with my parents but I
was never allowed into the booths. However, they used to have a miniature version of the voting machine (with levers) outside and I used to play with that and pretend to vote.

10. I mentioned this to my daughter the other day ...
I told her, "Since you were born .. I haven't "voted" .. you actually "pulled" the switches for me." She is 11 now and said .. "Mom! This year, YOU gotta do the voting!"

She then went to her dad and said .. "Daddy, can I go in and vote for you?" .. :)

11. Children (under 18) ARE allowed in voting booths in CA!
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 05:19 PM by stopbush

14222. Nothing contained in this code shall prevent a voter from
being accompanied by a child or children under the age of 18 years
while the voter is within the voting booth area if the child is, or
children are, under the voter's care.

12. I just asked my mom about this,
because I couldn't remember if that was allowed here. She always worked at the tables where they checked to see if you were on the list. She doesn't remember anyone doing that. Obviously I didn't because she was too busy. But I was usually hanging around, running errands, getting people coffee and so on.

14. That is the plan.
They can vote for whoever they want, but I want my kids to respect, honor and participate in their civic duty of voting.

15. I'm voting by mail ballot.
I don't have kids, but if I did, I'd sit them down with me in my living room and have them help me fill out the ballot, then take them with me when I take my ballot to the county clerk's office and drop it in the ballot box.

18. I usually do the same, but this year, I'm voting absentee
My DH is out of town for business on election day, so we both got absentee ballots since I would be taking two school age boys (we usually take one of them each to the polls with us) and a 7 week old infant and it would be a lot in the teeny room that our polling place is in.

But my boys are very excited about the idea of voting and know already (at 6 and 7) that it is the most important responsibility we have as citizens.

Of course, they also got me called down to school because the older one said our current president's name is Chimpy and he's a bad man who lied and got a bunch of soldiers killed. Oops.

20. I used to take my two kids with me.
They loved it. And each of them was raring to go when they got old enough to vote.

A couple of times in recent years when the grandkids were out of school, I brought a couple of them with me too.
