28. I don't like sweet potatoes cooked traditionally; probably wouldn't like the pie either, BUT
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 10:33 AM by DeschutesRiver
I found something wonderful to do with them. Peel and slice them very thin, saute them in butter and fresh garlic until crisp.

YUMMMMMMMMM! Like an addiction. One day I am going to try to dehydrate them to get sweet potato "chips" - or deep fry.

As for the pie for election night, I like the idea. I am leaning to blackberry pie, but I haven't had a banana cream pie for years, and I used to really like those.

Otherwise, peach and cream pie. Okay, maybe all three.

ETA: I have used both yams and sweet potatoes for the garlic crisps; can't remember which I liked the best. Experiment!

32. "Sweet potato chips" are how I got my kids to eat sweet potatoes
I included it as a dish one Thanksgiving, and they loved it. I just sliced them really thin and cooked them in olive oil, I haven't tried it with garlic, that sounds great!

Since then they have learned to like all kinds of sweet potato recipes -- our current favorite is cubed sweet potatos drizzled in olive oil, sometimes with onions, baked in the oven for about 25 minutes. Soft and yummy!

20. Bunnies!
Hey girl!

Over the past week or two, while Palin and McCain have been frothing at the mouth at their stumps, Barack has taken to telling these stories about pie, how he likes pie and what pies different people like.

I think it's been a way to diffuse the negativity and highlight his being above the dirty talk, and maybe it's an allusion to (yet unexplained) to "American as" and "everyone get's a piece of" types of rhetoric.

I love it, especially his not engaging the crap.

That's about it! :hi:

24. Hootchie Koochie Pie!
Hootchie Koochie Pie!

* 1 baked 9-inch pastry shell
* 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar, divided
* 3 tablespoons cornstarch
* 1 1/2 cups cold water
* 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
* grated zest of 1 lemon
* 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
* 1 tablespoon butter
* 3 egg whites
* 1/2 pound Humboldt "Purple Max" Cannabis, unseeded and ground

Preparation:
In a saucepan combine 1 cup sugar with cornstarch. Gradually stir in the cold water until smooth. Stir in the beaten egg yolks. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, and continue to boil and stir in Cannabis for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in the lemon peel, lemon juice, and butter. Cool. Turn into the prepared pie shell. Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually beat in 1/3 cup sugar; continue beating until stiff peaks form. Spread the egg white meringue mixture over the fulling, sealing to edge of crust. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool and store leftovers in refrigerator.

37. We are all good!
Ginny just came back from the parlor, all fluffed up until tomorrow, when she'll look all scraggly as normal.

You're smart to stay away for awhile, it has been a while and too much of it is crazymaking!

We vote, we win, we continue to participate, we rebuild a better world, leave it a better place or the little ones.

That's all that matters.

That, and hugs! :hug:

39. Yep, that's about it.
I'm sick of the whole sorry mess. The country is in the crapper and every politician is pointing fingers at each other. Well, guess what? They are ALL responsible for this mess. After all, our Democrats had the majority in Congress for the last 2 years. There's plenty of blame to go around.

Hopefully, things will get better once Bush leaves through the doggie door.

Hugs to you and Ginny!!!
