McCain has terse response on Palin shopping spree

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Presidential candidate John McCain isn't happy about having to explain why the Republican Party has had to buy running mate Sarah Palin $150,000 in clothes, hair styling and accessories.

McCain was asked several questions on Thursday about the shopping spree — and he answered each one more or less the same way: Palin needed clothes and they'll be donated to charity.

McCain offered no further comment, except to say that the Republican National Committee doesn't buy his clothes.

News of the purchases, largely from upscale Saks Fifth Avenue and Nieman Marcus, contrasts with the image Palin has crafted as a typical hockey mom.

1. I guess the wannabe Cariboo Barbies will have fun buying them
when they're auctioned off.

2. wtf is a "hockey mom" anyway?
Does that mean that her principal identity lies in shuttling children to hockey games? I never understood this bs. If that's her identity, she wouldn't be in the position she is, period.

4. Where I grew up, "hockey" was a euphemism for "shit."
That fits.

I grew up in South Carolina, BTW.

:hi:

I'll be going back to SC for Christmas. Looking forward to many fights with my Fundie/GOP relatives.

:banghead:

They think I'm a Communist anyway. I moved to Los Angeles years ago, and have lived/worked in Egypt for 3 years now.

"You know, one of them Mooslim terraist suicide bombers over there might kill you."

"Yes. Or here in the good ol' USA, I might be standing outside Planned Parenthood when a Christian terrorist bombs the place and kills me."

So many of our festive holiday conversations start out just like that...

Edited to correct dyslexic smiley...

16. I feel your pain.
My mother lives in TN and I think she wishes she could sprinkle me with Holy water every time she sees me.

She used to be a Dem - LOVED Jimmy Carter... but that was before she became a god warrior. ugh.

13. It's the all-white version of a "soccer mom" ... soccer is too multicultural for the GOP.
Hockey costs more ... FAR more.

12. Won't she need clothes after 11-4, John?
Or won't you care what she looks like the morning after?

If John had picked a running mate based on qualifications rather than looks, her clothing wouldn't be an issue.

Actually, either scenario is a waste.

15. "Now that we got caught (again) they'll be donated to charity"
If we can pry them out of the grubby secessionist's hands I'm sure the homeless person who ends up with the $10,000 dress will love it.
