***R.I.P Republican Party***
Not really, I hope your members grow a brain but that, as a party, you burn in Hell.

Former Republican Governor Arne Carlson, MN, grew a brain: http://hometownsource.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6717&Itemid=1

Michele Bachmann has not. She's a disruptor, she'll burn in hell.

RIP, not.

1. My mom, then a Republican, told me the same thing on August 9, 1974

She said we wouldn't see another Republican elected to the Presidency for a whole generation.

2. Wishful thinking on her part and on mine.
This time our economy is so screwn, it might be the end of them "as we know them".

It's a hope....

5. The GOP as we know it has imploded but... i think we can expect more culture wars ahead
While the moderate pundits and such are engaging in mutiny, I think the party itself is permanently controlled by social conservatives and the far-right. They will seek unity when it's pragmatic.

I think what Sarah Palin represents is being slammed right now, but while many in the GOP will want more moderation in the future... i think the underlying politics will stay the same.

They will just package it differently from now on.

If we are really headed into a depression, i think we must expect the alienation, anger, and fear from the "pro-america" rural heart-land to increase and thus to have increasing political ramifications.

We may be Purple America but there's a lot of people who dont want to be purple and feel it's a threat.

8. Yep, the culture wars will never end.
But I see the former republicans becoming fragmented and fighting amongst themselves, much like our party has at times.

I think about how long FDR held sway after the depression, and Eisenhower was not a mean Republican, he warned us at least of the military industrial complex.

I'm going to enjoy watching them eat their young and fight over the scraps, and seeing who it is among them with the wisdom and courage to say, "Enough!"

7. i wouldn't mind seeing the repub party dissolve and all it's current elected officials banned from..
...politics for life.

then we'd have the democrats, greens, and libertarians. things would start getting more sane.
