Help! Please!
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 10:49 PM by pirhana
My daughter just called from Tucson where she goes to college.

2 of her friends went to early vote today on campus and were told that they were not registered.
They signed up about a month ago on campus. What happened to their registration(s) are anybody's guess.

Tucson is very blue, especially on a college campus, so I tend to think this was more of a case of
somebody screwing up than it happened on purpose. But we'll never know.
(Have to wonder how many other kids this happened to)

My daughter called me asking for advice.
They are meeting with the on campus election board on Monday.
I told them to call 1-866-ourvote tomorrow.

What other advice can I give them?

These were 2 votes for Obama.

Thankfully I raised my daughter right. She signed up online and has already mailed in her ballot :)

Thanks in advance - I'll check in later to read your responses.

edit to add - I have to tell this story about one of the girls.
She loves Barack soooo much that about 1 year ago, my daughter and her friends chipped in and bought her one of those life sized cardboard cut-outs of Obama.
Needless to say, she was in tears when she was turned away from the polls today.

4. Nope.
I'm afraid these 2 are going to end up with provisional ballots.

5. Do what you can to get a regular vote, use provisional if necessary
A voter should do everything they can to vote on a regular ballot, because provisional ballots may not be counted. However, provisional ballots are a failsafe.

I don't know if they can get witnesses saying they filled out the registration and mailed it in???

7. They didn't mail it in.
It was an on-campus registration.

6. They should or you should call for them
The elections supervisor office in their county. First ask them over the phone if they are in their system/computer. If they are not, they should go in person to tell them they had registered about a month.. - explain how they were registered... -

Try to contact your local state department office FIRST. if that fails, try something else. I have read in other blogs that they might be doing this on purpose to college students - because they know they will vote for Obama.

Please tell these two young souls to not give up, that's what they want- to contact who i told you above.

Please do this. Contact your county/their county's elections office.. they are the ones better to help you, I have done this in the past to confirm my brother and grandmother's registrations...
