One weakness for Obama, highlighted in NYT/CBS poll ...
Growing Doubts on Palin Take a Toll, Poll Finds

(And 50 percent said they thought Mr. Obama would raise taxes on people like them, while 44 percent said he would not; both numbers are similar to two weeks ago.)

With all the money Obama has spent, it is disappointing, and somewhat concerning, to see these numbers.

1. What is disconcerning is how many people are gullible no matter what.....
which is why Bush has served 8 years, and we went to war with Iraq.

2. Oh, no question there, Frenchie. I'm not sure any amount of money ...
... could reverse the decades of characterizations of Democrats as the party of tax increases.

13. For some, it is hard to believe that McCain and Palin are liars.
They CONSTANTLY lie, telling people that Obama will raise their taxes.

3. 17% of Americans believe they are in the top 1% income bracket.
True.

We are a stupid, delusional people.

50% could believe they are in the top 5%.

The good news at the link is 59% say Palin not qualified. Not only does that help us this year, it means we might never see her again.

4. So many Americans think they are in the top 1% richest!
That's the success of right wing talk radio marketing. Some poor people in Kansas who have never left their small town are voting McCain because they are sure that they are in the top 1% richest Americans.

Remember when Joe the Plumber said he was rich? Turned out he was either stupid or lying. Either way, Rush Limbaugh convinced Joe that he was rich and the poor people were trying to steal his money. Only problem turned out to be that Joe himself was one of those "poor" people he hates.

6. Actually it's pundits and I'll explain.
It's not the "real" success of the Right Wing. The problem is the media pundits that people watch. No matter what you thinka nd what you do, most people get a summary of the days and maybe worlds event on the News.

If you turn on any of the shows and let's talk about MSNBC as the most liberal. The anchors AND pundits who know better let Right Wing idiots run on this thing, "Obama will raise taxes" but don't differentiate that he will raise "CORPORATE taxes" not the people's taxes. That's the responsibility of the pundits and anchors and they all know better. But when Obama says, he won't raise and cut taxes, they don't get that clarification.

The pundits and anchors and journalists are doing this for ratings and sensationalism, we're all fully aware of that. They know better on many counts but they need the ratings so they work just like politicians. CNN is notorious for these things. Chris Matthews on MSNBC tends, when he's in the mood to be a true journalist and provide major clarifications. However, overall majority do not adhere to a law of servicing the people with the truth. They manipulate it as much as possible for their own ratings.

So again not necessarily success of the Right Wing, but the let down of support to the American people by Corporate Media.

8. I bet too
when you look into some of the people who think they are rich financial situations-where they have the mcmansion, the big SUV, and all the latest high tech gadgets-I bet it was all bought on credit.

5. Obama has been all over this.
Hopefully this is just an anomaly. Hopefully the prime time spot last night changed some of their minds also.

9. To have 50% think that AND have an 11 point lead is amazing
it must mean they think McCain will do the same thing and/or Obama has other qualities they like enough to vote for him.

10. I've tried to set the record straight time and again. I've even shown people the tax table
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 07:30 AM by Blondiegrrl
that reveals how much money they would get back under Obama's tax plan, as compared to McCain's plan.

But the ignorant masses have been trained to believe that ALL Democrats ALWAYS raise taxes no matter what. It doesn't matter that Obama has said repeatedly that he won't raise taxes; they think he's lying.

Ironic, though, that the president famous for, "Read my lips: No new taxes" was a Rethug.

11. It's all in the way the question is presented - my dad got polled via phone for one of these
He said that the question was presented this way:

"Do you believe that Barack Obama will raise taxes?"

His response was to call for further clarification of the question from the pollster. He told the guy that he won't raise taxes on anyone $250,000 and below - but would raise taxes on +$250,000 incomes. The pollster said he would mark that down as a yes. My dad was beside himself after the pollster said this, he even told him that the question was a loaded question and didn't give an honest picture of the extent of the question.

I think it may have been the NYT poll, but I'll have to check for clarification.

12. Obama should just blanket the airwaves with the website taxcut.barackobama.com and
I wish he had mentioned it on his prime-time special as well.

14. i really believe for some
to think and use their brain in a real way would change their whole perspective on life...
and it just may be too much for them.

I used to just "go along" too. I didn't do it consciously, it's just that I lived my whole life that way. Just going along to get along.

And when I had a big shift in my personal life, and living my life for me...my politics changed.
I didn't set out to change my politics, it just seemed to evolve with my personal growth.

I'm not saying I'm completely self-actualized and that ALL Republicans have no self-awareness.
But it was that way for me.

Or maybe I just should go have more coffee. Wednesday cannot come fast enough. :eyes:

15. Repukes have cornered taxes and national security as their issues
Even though they suck on both issues, they've been doing a better job at marketing themselves on those items for decades.
