Obama and having republicans in his administration...
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 11:29 AM by Javaman
I think it's a brilliant move.

we have lived in probably the most divisive period in our governments history.

It has to end. period.

many on here wish to rub the last 8 years into every single repukes eyes and make it burn.

I more than anyone else would love to see that, but...

BUT! I also know it would do nothing at all to help a divided nation heal.

Obama has made it perfectly clear during his entire run for the presidency that he has and will continue to reach across the isle to bring the nation together again.

Whether or not, deep down, he really wants to, he realized he has to. That is why he makes a good leader.

If anyone has ever been in the role of leader, you understand that you have to deal sometimes with the people you most dislike to get the results you want.

I am a life long, very liberal democrat, I know that most of the traditional pillars that make up the repuke platform turn my stomach, that said, I also understand that giving our current situation, division is not the order of the day.

Like Obama's statement in regards to failin, "we don't have a blue country or a red country, we don't have area that are more "pro-america" than others, we have one country".

It's time to heal. And I know many here do not like that idea due to the last 8 years of out right insanity, but that's just the facts.

Think of it this way, in a more extreme fashion: Abe Lincoln surrounded himself, in his cabinet, with members from the other party, why? because he wanted people that tested him, that gave him very different opinions, this way he could make a more valued decision.

Now think of our current moron* in chief, who surround himself with yes men with their own agenda.

which do you prefer?

Obama has shown unbelievable skill and qualities to be a suburb leader, hopefully, after Tuesday, that leadership will guide us through these times.

For the first time in my 45 years on this earth, I honestly have faith in his measure as a leader.

Having contrasting views to your own, is one of the valued qualities of a good leader.

on edit: I started this thread in responce to a late breaking new article about Obama including republicans in his cabinet and the somewhat bizarre reaction to that article here on DU.

1. It would make Obama govern more effectively
As long as Obama appoints Republicans that are respectful to Obama's ideas and judgment, he should be respectful to their ideas and judgment.

When you see an issue from all sides, you will come up with the best course of action.

2. I agree.
This country needs to come together, not stay divided. I know it won't be possible for some on either side to see this, but it needs to be. Bush has divided this country like I have never seen in my 57 years on this earth. It won't be easy, but this country needs to mend, and one of the main reasons I voted for Obama is that I feel he is the one that can do this. We as a people need to understand that as Obama stated this is "ONE" country and we are not blue or red states we are all americans and we can make things better. I think there are good and bad politicians on both sides of the isle, and we need to get rid of the bad ones, no matter what party they are in, and do our best to get people in congress that are willing to work for the people of this country.
