the First Amendment is? Why is our freedom of speech protected?

To protect the speaker against attacks

. . . by the MEDIA!

ABC News' Steven Portnoy reports: In a conservative radio interview that aired in Washington, D.C. Friday morning, Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin said she fears her First Amendment rights may be threatened by "attacks" from reporters who suggest she is engaging in a negative campaign against Barack Obama.

Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks. Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate's free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.

"If convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

However she feels about the way her story has been told in the press, Palin told WMAL she is not discouraged.

"It's sort of perplexing to me, because I'm a practical person and plainspoken also, but just cutting to the chase and calling things like I see them, just like most Americans. But this has not left a bitter taste in my mouth, the bitter shots taken by the mainstream media and by some of the elitism there in Washington," Palin said.

the pro-america stuff. the subtle nativism. the theocratic claims to authority.

the complete and total disregard for the truth.

the willingness to abuse power in the name of god/good.

this is way beyond the cynical politics of bush, cheney and rove.

10. Kunstler has always said that Peak Oil will lead to the election of a
Cornpone Fascist. She fits the mold in an unexpected way.

Not 2012, but 2016. She'd better stay out of DC & stay out of public view in Juneau, it's her best shot at the nomination.

8. It's certainly at least authoritarian, but based on ignorance, not a philosophy
She's still not a fascist (any more than using the graduated income tax is Marxist). But her impulses are monarchial & intolerant.

6. Reminds me of Rudy Giuliani's famous statement,
"What we don't see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do. You have free speech so I can be heard."

7. Jesus. Did her mother have any children that lived?
This is beyond stupid. Calling her character attacks negative (which they are) is somehow restricting her freedom of speech? No one is stopping her from spewing all this shit.

And this from a journalism graduate, no less. Obviously journalism law & ethics was not one of the classes she in which she excelled.

Her presence on this or any other ticket is a national disgrace. Thanks a lot, John.

12. Freedom of press violates freedom of speech in this turds world?
She is not fit to appear in public and even utter a word she is so freaking stupid- but, the 1st ammendment protects her right to be a complete douche.

Take her sentence and higlight the buzz words game. They're just buzz words linked into a barely coherent sentence!
.......

"If convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

.......

"...convince enough voters ...negative campaigning... me ...call Barack Obama out ... his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "... I don't know ... the future ... our country... First Amendment rights ... ability to ask questions ....fear of attacks .... the mainstream media."

"It's ... perplexing ..I'm practical... plainspoken ... cutting to the chase ... calling things like I see them...like most Americans...a bitter taste in my mouth... bitter shots... by mainstream media and ...elitism ... Washington," Palin farted through her pie hole on the radio.

I hope Rachel has fun with this sentence construction.
