What happened to the poor in America?
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 05:34 PM by blueinindiana
I have not heard a candidate talk about "the poor" in several election cycles.

I guess the poor have no political value anymore for any party am I correct?

1. No
They hold value for me. Edwards behavior (I supported him initially) smashed that.

I hope, I hope, I hope - because I hope. . . I have HOPE that an Obama Administration will shed light on the shameful amount of poverty we have in this country. :-(

3. I think a significant amount of poor self identify as middle class
I remember when I was growing up, finding out what the poverty line was and being shocked to realize that my mom and I were beneath it because my mom insisted that we were middle class.

4. The poor identify more with working Americans than they do the uber rich

When repubs are complaining about helping out working Americans - the poor know they are included. What do you need to hear about the poor that you are not hearing? I heard it from Edwards, Hillary and Obama - and if I end up in more financial trouble I know its not going to be McCain/Palin that help me out

5. I was going to post about this.
I am definitely below the poverty line because I must live off disability. The laws nowadays make it impossible to work at all without losing benefits unless you do it "under the table."

I don't see how Edwards' behavior has anything to do with the silence about the poor.

I'm hoping that Obama's policies will lift up the middle class, which will allow us poor folk to rise up a little, too.

(This is quite possibly the most poorly-written post I've ever written on DU, including this sentence. Am I brain-dead or what? )
