Today, 18,537 more absentee ballots wre returned and logged in at the BOE.

A total of 178,826 have been returned. There have been, to date, 274,897 absentee ballots requested.

In House, or early voting, 38,951 have voted.

Breakdown by party....

Absentee Early Voting

Democrats 104,440 (58.40%) 23,628 (60.66%)
Republicans 23,864 (13.34%) 786 ( 2.02%)
Independents 50,522 (28.25%) 14,537 (37.32%)

There you have it....

About 20% of all registered voters hav completed the transaction.

Remember one thing, a lot of those independents are new voters, people who have been signed up recently.

4. I know the new director and she is a top knotch administrator who is
dedicated to her job.

As to your question, is there any way to know if the votes in your home town will be counted...

For that matter, is there a level of certainty that any vote any where will be counted...

Ah they cynic in all arises as Election day draws near...

The problem in Ohio was never in Cuyahoga with non counting. Most of the problem here in Cuyahoga stemmed from the fact people on DU and other political sites had no idea how to read the reports. They impugned all sorts of diabolical motives for missing absentees and what not. Suffice it to say that those confusing reports have been jettisoned and have been replaced with easy to read and understandable on-line reports.

I served on the BOE in the 90's and was the Treasurer for the democratic party in Cuyahoga County from 1994-2002. There were some problems with dropped votes lately when the county went all digital, but that problem has been addressed.

I went to a recount this past winter for a local council race. I saw first hand how the ballots were counted. We counted them by hand and then ran them through the scan-counter several times, always coming up with the same result.

To put it succinctly, the BOE in Cuyahoga, jumped from 1975 univac technology to 2008 state of the art tech in the short span of about six months. Jane Platen was the person who marshalled this task. I don't foresee any difficulties this year. Especially since so many have all ready voted.

2. Tarrant County Texas is running about 40% with today's totals not in.
We have 34 early voting locations and they have all been open 7 to 7 since Saturday (except last Sunday which was 11 am to 5 pm)

Texas has had early voting since 1992, I think, so many of the processes have been streamlined since then. I have only early voted 2 times though.

3. Here's some stats from Franklin Co (took me 2 hrs 50 minutes to vote today -
starting at 10:20 am):

Franklin County Ohio Early Voting Stats
by jmknapp

Fri Oct 31, 2008 at 11:50:52 AM PDT

Here are some encouraging stats to date on early voting in Franklin County Ohio (Columbus metro area). First a chart of the number of ballots cast per day at the county early voting location (Veterans Memorial, 300 W. Broad St.):

As of yesterday (Oct. 30), 40,709 ballots have been cast in-person at Vets. The high volume in the first seven days is due to the so-called "Golden Week," where voters could register and vote on the same day. The big spike on Oct. 6, the last day of Golden Week, was partially due to some confusion among the public, some of whom were under the impression that Oct. 6 was the last day to vote early in person, not merely the last day one could register.
In the last week or so, in-person voting traffic has really picked up, with lines currently around 3 hours throughout the day. Here's the scene a couple days ago:

jmknapp's diary :: ::
The line now typically snakes around every square foot of interior space, and out the door.
The Franklin County Board of Elections is estimating that around 600,000 ballots will be cast in the county in total. The in-person stats are on track to top 50,000, or approaching 9% of the total.
