Wow - that Palin SNL performance fell FLAT
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 10:15 PM by Tallison
She's either has no talent for comedy or completely unable to make fun of herself.

For four full minutes, she delivered punch lines with an ominous grimace, to tepid audience tittering.

Really uncomfortable...

36. Not that common.
I've lived here for 33 years, and the only people who have that accent that I've heard are certain descendants of early Minnesotan homesteaders who live in the Mat-Su Valley.

Sarah isn't the descendant of a homesteader so she probably picked it up from someone who is -- although the accent has been much more pronounced down there than we ever heard it here.

In other words -- an affectation.

37. Perhaps. I ghuess her voice just doesn't...
Bug me the same way it bugs other people. I also like the high-n-whiny New York Jewish mother in law voice and the gum-smackin' New Jersey accent. I guess I just like voices others find irritating.

20. She gave some seated speech about how
well she could take a joke, how her impersonation had rescued the show from oblivion, and how she would refrain from censoring the show when she's sworn in on Jan 20th. She said it through clenched teeth with a real ominous expression, and I can only guess at the punch lines, because the audience was totally lost.

McCain was funny and relaxed. Palin was just awful and embarrassing.

You've gotta' see the clip - it may be at SNL's site by now....

23. There's two new clips - one with McCain and the 2nd with Palin
Palin appears about an hour and fifteen minutes in.

It's definitely worth checking SNL's homepage out in a bit to see. Definitely not something they're going to rerun in future 'best of' bashes. She looked tense and irritable and totally at odds with the spirit of the exercise, which is, of course, self-deprecation. McCain's clearly good at it, but Palin looked like she was fighting the spirit for the four entire minutes she read her lines. The audience was lost.

Guess they not only wanted to avoid press questions prior to the election, but also the chance that SNL would take on this issue....

More pro mccain/palin than anything as far as I was concerned. I don't think I can ever watch SNL again. Especially if something happens and Barack loses. I don't know, but that is the way I felt about it. I hated it.

19. It sounded too much like she was serious; what she was talking about
was the same anti-Constitution, civil-right revoking shit we've seen from Bush/Cheney the last 8 years. It was intended to be satirical and funny, but it wasn't. It was too real and it was fucking scary.

SNL isn't stupid. I think they set her up.

John McCain wasn't funny either. He was sad. He sounded like he was begging for votes.

She delivered through clenched teeth and a real creepy staredown. I had to rewind the DVR to discern the punchlines. The audience was LOST. It was one of those skits, mid-way through, comedians and staff writers start burning in the face wondering what they were thinking...
