2. WHAT!? I don't get it.
Are you kidding?

Early votes won't be counted in Virginia?

4. In CA I was told...
that early votes are basically absentee ballots. They are held until after the polls close tomorrow, then they cross reference the early ballots with the polls to make sure there are no duplicates.

6. Do you know if they're considered "absentee" everywhere?
And how will they all count toward the total vote count? Or are they only counted in the event of a tie (or whatever)?

10. I think the early votes get counted first after they verify you didn't try to vote twice.
I don't know how it works in other states.

7. yeah, just found out about that in Montgomery Co, Ohio (Dayton)
When I voted early, I was told that early votes would be counted "first thing on election day" but now they're saying they will "endeavor to count them" by 6pm on Nov 4, but due to personnel and equipment limitations, it might not be until 6am the next day, or 6pm... all they would commit to is that they would be part of the "certified" count.

So, I've been semi-disenfranchised. Seems my vote would have counted for more if I'd waited until Election Day proper. This problem is supposedly NOT the case in surrounding counties, but they have smaller populations (and are probably more republican), so don't be surprised if the early Ohio returns look more skewed towards McCain as the early voters from the non-urban areas are reported early.

8. Early votes are counted starting at 8:01 when the polls close
It's always the first action of the election office in each respective county.
That's how it is in California, and New York, I assume that it's that way all over.

11. Here in WI, our "early votes" are actually absentees.
The lady at the Clerk's office today said they are all read in the optical scanners (and I marked an optical scanner ballot). I'm nervous. She gave everyone voting a pencil when we usually mark those ballots with black marking pen. She says the pencil is fine.

13. We'll hear the first results as always when the polls close at 8:00 ET & 5:00 PT

Or is it EST & PST? Never can get it right. Whatever, after the first precincts are close on the east at 8 pm.

Watch for VA, FL, PA & OH - they will give a clue how it will go.
