6. I would love to see approval ratings of previous presidents in their last months against..
...presidential candidates from their own party, to see the correlation. I'll bet McCain was above average. My bet here is that Bush was the KoD. Not Bush alone, but the fact that so many Republicans marched in complete lockstep with the guy, that he really became the republican brand. At the end of the day it was too hard for McCain to argue that he was different, not because of Obama pressing the point, but because of the actions of so many in his own party.

..."In what respect, Charlie?"

From the Convention until that moment, "Rock Star" Palin was carrying the Republican ticket. From then on, her inadequacies became too obvious to ignore, and the entire Republican campaign began to implode.

15. They all worked so hard, poor things, to do the very worst,
repeating the same mistakes over and over and over. It must be in their nature, or maybe it's the romantic pull of the 1890's when empires were all and life was good for the robber barons. None had the wisdom or courage to take a retreat, dump the fundies, and do a Dean-style, Obama-enacted renewal with a new vision for themselves.

Like all the dead flies on my window sill, they just keep trying, only harder.

I hope they never figure it out.

47. McCain's choice of embracing Bush and selecting no nothing Palin
With that embrace, he solidified the American people's mind that he was NOT RUNNING AWAY FROM BUSH POLICIES. Obama just had to work that information to the top of thinking people's minds.

With the Palin selection, he proved to fair minded Republicans (which is an oxymoron) that he didn't care about digging out from all the b.s. during Bush's reign. Her inability to answer basic national questions was his death song.

and counted.

Dean couldn't have won in 2004 with McAuliffe's DNC, but Kerry WOULD have won 2004 with Dean's DNC. Hell....Gore would be making his farewell address come January if we had Dean's DNC in 2000.

Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson (1933-1969) (4 d, 1 r)

Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush (1969-2008) (2 d, 5 r)

It is the end of an era. A particularly bad one. Far worse than the Democratic era preceding it. The Republican party might not recover like the Democratic party did, since the D party didn't do horrible things during their period.
