18. Yeah, my girls want to know where I go to vote for
Barack and Joe. They know them just by first name basis only from the internet and tv. They crack me up. Morgan, my older daughter asked me yesterday if its time to go vote for president yet. I told her not yet. She understands the president is in charge of the United States and she asked me if that means Massachusetts too (as we passed through it this summer on the way to NH for vacation). I was laughing so hard.

11. I was in line at 6 a.m., when the polls opened
Maybe 25 people ahead of me, with maybe 25 more behind me when the doors opened, and more heading in from the parking lot. Poll workers looked a bit shellshocked at the onslaught -- I asked the woman who checked my ID if the turnout was unusually large, and she hooted and said "YES!"

I have voted in this little precinct for 17 years and have NEVER had to wait in line and have NEVER seen so many people there at once. It's usually a trickle.

I have to admit, I got a little teary when I actually voted for Obama/Biden.

Mr. MassLiberal and I then headed over to Starbucks for our free coffees!

Have a great day, everyone! :hi:

23. SO was #8, I was #9.
We got to our polling site at 6:25. Everyone was very excited, and all but one of the people in line were folks who had been at the polls as the same time as us during the Democratic primary. A steady stream of people were coming in after us. Everybody was laughing and joking and happy to see the turnout at our little precinct. Several people were wishing people would be this excited about EVERY election, including me.

One family brought their three kids in so they could see the process -- the oldest, who looked like she was about 12, asked what a provisional ballot was, dad said he didn't know, then he asked one of the pollworkers to explain it. So there was learning going on, too.

No problems with the machines (I'm in West Virginia, where ES&S have been giving us headaches), and things were running very smoothly.

WVU is closed for election day, so I'm back home watching too much news, hanging out here on DU, waiting for the returns, and chilling a bottle of champagne!

25. Number 5 for touch screen in SW Ohio.
Got to my precinct at 6:10; 10 people in line. By the time the doors opened at 6:30, there were at least 50 people waiting. When I left at 6:45, the line was inside the building, but STILL long for the polls being open only 15 minutes.

The election official who had to unlock the machines was running late, though; he was working as people were checking in. No problems. I double-checked both the screen and the print-out, and there is at least one vote for Obama-Biden in SW Ohio.

And I got there an hour before the polls opened! By the time they opened at 7 AM, the line was at least 200 people long.

The Obama and local Dem volunteers were out in force; I didn't see a single Republican functionary. It was awesome.

Editing to add that this was in suburban Philadelphia, PA.

31. 6:45 AM, Suffolk, VA
Stood in line 1.5 hours to vote at 6:45 with my parents. There were EASILY 2000 people in line in the POURING RAIN outside behind us (we were in the mid 300's). They were parking 1/4 mile away and walking through the fields of mud. My district only had 4500 vote in 2004, so this is HUGE. And I didn't know there were that many African-Americans in my district, which always goes Republican. If 90% of them go Obama and 30% of the whites do, Obama has this district.

Oh yeah, paper ballots FINALLY and scanning machines. And they scanned our drivers licenses rather than having to check us off on a spreadsheet. They estimate they can move 500 people an hour. Very efficient.

36. Just got back from voting.
I had only gotten about two hours of sleep, after staying up most of last night doing school work and watching the news shows.

I got to my polling place about 20 minutes before it opened, and there was a line halfway across the parking lot (maybe about 50 people?). By the time the doors opened, the line was stretched to, and down, the street. I'm bad at estimating numbers, but I'm guessing it was 150+ people. That's a pretty large turnout for my area. I can tell they anticipated a large turnout, because instead of having the voting machines in this small room that they normally do, they moved the voting machines into a large gym.

If everyone got the memo to "wear blue" if you're voting for Obama, lots of votes were being cast for him this morning. People wearing blue outnumbered those wearing red (and hell, even pink) by about 6:1. Even though I put on a few lbs recently, and my only blue shirt fit a little bit tight, I still wore it as a "sign" :)

I feel very good about today.

Went at 5:00, but no one was there, so went back around 6:00, and there were just a few standing in line. Doors opened promptly at 7:00. Was in and out.

When I made my way out to the parking lot...WOW, the line that I couldn't see because I was so close to the door had grown to about 400! Some elections there aren't even 400 that show up all day here.

Lots and lots and lots of young people.

already about 65 in line. Voting started at 7am here. First guy to vote was an African American and the second guy asked to shake his hand sayiing "Grats on being first!" Beautiful day here in Madison WI. When I left at about 7:30 there were about 350 in line outside with more cars streaming in and blocking traffic a bit on the streets.

This was a huge turnout compared to previous years with lots of younger people (not a campus location)!!

62. My mom and I just got back from proudly voting for Barack Obama and Joseph Biden!
It was a GREAT feeling. The poll workers were extremely professional. Everyone was happy going in, and coming out. No long lines at our district booth, but another one had a relatively long line (usually on election day, it's in and out all the way around, there's hardly anyone there.) My mom and I took pictures outside the building to commemorate the day. I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to share this with her!

Now, GOBAMA!

64. Ok, I voted a month ago, but...
driving to work at 7:20 this morning, I went by my normal polling place. The parking lot was full, but there was not a line out the door. In 2004, I got there at 7:15, and the line outside was about 50 people - took me 90 minutes to vote that year. However, I live in a predominantly Democratic precinct with a very strong grassroots organization, so I'm betting a lot of folks voted early.

Just spoke with my boss who lives about 20 minutes east of me. He said there was a "huge line" at his polling place which was very unusual. Said he'd never had to wait before.

Oh, and this is in Columbus, Ohio...north side (me), northeast side (boss). :patriot: :patriot: :patriot:

68. I was person #5
I voted at 6AM sharp, along with the blue-hair brigade. I would have been #2, but it took a while for the poll vol to find my common, six-letter name in the Big Book of Signatures :eyes: . Once again, many of the races in this area went uncontested by the Democrats.

69. #8 this morning,
I asked my Republican boss if I could come in late so that I could vote in the morning, because I know that the lines would be long after work (thats when I voted in the primary) and he happily allowed me to come in late. I am glad that while I work for a company that supports Republicans they encourage everyone to vote.

I just wish that they gave out "I voted" stickers in WV, It just does'nt feel right not wearing one.

70. I voted for Barack at about 6:45AM in Missouri
I couldn't believe the line, I got there shortly after 6:00am and there was the biggest line I have ever seen at the polling place. It was still dark out too!

I saw quite a few young people there too. Looks good for GOTV. Oh yeah I voted a straight dem ticket to help President Obama pass his rescue plans for America.

GOBAMA!

72. 7AM in Chicago. In and out in less than 15 minutes
There was a line building at the door, but it was for the 23rd precinct. We got in line and then a guy asks anyone from the 40th precinct to come up to the front. We were then the first in line for our precinct. Did the electronic voting machine and it worked fine.

75. I voted at 8:45 AM. No lines at all, but I'm told there were lines
when the polls opened at 7 AM. I heard the same from several people at work who live in other towns in CT.
