High Strung Poll Workers Almost Screwed Up Our Votes Today
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 12:31 PM by stopbush
My wife and I were voting for the first time in OC, CA having relocated here from NoCal in April. We changed our voting address when we changed our driver license info in April, and received a hard copy address change confirmation this summer from the BoE. But that was all we had received from them. No subsequent voter card and no voter guides. Strange.

We presented these address confirmations at the poll today. "Are you here for a provisional ballot?" the man asked.

"No. We registered in April. We should be on the voter rolls." sez I. He calls over a lady who looks at the cards we presented.

"Sit at one of these desks" sez she. Next thing we know, they've handed us envelopes to fill out - provisional ballot envelopes.

I looked at the guy who first brought us to the check in table. "Are we supposed to be doing this?" ask I.

"Well, if you checked in against the list at the table and your name isn't there, then, yes."

"But nobody checked us against the list. All they did was look at our cards and send us over here."

So, the guy takes our cards, we walk over to the table, and voila! our names ARE on the voter list.

We voted by machines that did have a paper trail and showed us the actual piece of paper before confirming the votes. No provisional ballot was needed.

Overly anxious poll workers looking for "problems". Beware of them!

1. The lady handing out the ballots in my line...
...which pertained to the first initial of your last name was the slowest, most incompetent person I have ever seen in my life. The other poll workers in the different lines were handing out the ballots 3 to 1 against her. After she took about four minutes finally giving the ballot to the guy in front of me, I stood there for about thirty seconds and said, "I have someplace to be" and she replied, "Oh, I didn't even see you there", less than three feet away from her then I had to go through the same drill, watching her fumble through the papers, squinting at my license, squinting at the paper, repeating both steps three times, then finally handing me the ballot.

2. I hear they're on the lookout for Mickey Mouse. Word is that he'll be trying to vote today.
